Title: Non-RALLY at The Cove (October 12 - 14)
Post by: kyle4501 on August 19, 2007, 06:41:05 PM
Well, since I'm now an Airstreamer (Thanks to my parents support & some creative financing  :D ), I got to go to an official Airstream rally at The Cove & rub elbows with some veteran airstreamers. That was FUN! There are lots of closet bus nuts in that group! I even met one that used to work in bus maintenance & remembers servicing 4501's when they still had 2 4-71's! I was pleased to experience a LOT of support for us bus nuts to use the park!

We can't have a rally, but "individuals will not be turned away", SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE A NON-RALLY. Seems some people can't comprehend having a rally without being able to use the Shelter & Hall. We can gather there & enjoy fellowship with each other without the Hall or Shelter. The impression I got from those in attendance is that they are all eager to meet us. (The one that caused trouble after the July rally wasn't around & it seems more & more are seeing them for what they are.)

Any way, the non-rally will be a come as you are & bring your own meals (There is a chance we may be invited to a pot luck dinner with the airstreamers, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, we can do the pot luck at our buses, airstreams, or s&s. Whatever the case may be  ;D )

Palmetto Cove is a rally park & was built years ago. There are no showers there & only a few public toilets, that is why the health dept or dhec (the gubberment) has placed the 'fully self contained' requirement on the park. You must have a functioning toilet & sink to be allowed to park there. They will be looking because they don't want to be fined or shut down.

Since it is a non-rally, there will be no rally fee!  ;D  8)
The parking fee is $18 per night & that includes elec & water & sewer.
Most elec is 30A, & some 50A.  (I'd imagine the 50A spaces will be reserved for the other 2 groups that reserved the park last year for their rally.)

WORST CASE is if all 148 sites are filled, then extras will be parked in the overflow area that doesn't have utilities, but we can run a water hose & probably get you 5A of electricity.

Oh Yeah, the cell phone reception in the park is 99.99% nonexistent. Satelite reception is great & us that have the old fashioned aerial, that works well too!

A head count will be nice so we will know what to expect, but if you find you are able to make it at the last minute, you are welcome expected to be there.  ;D

Kyle,
Sadly, Paula & I will not be able to attend this one.  We arrived home last week from a great trip. I went on-line to the Social Security website to start the process of applying for my social securty to find I have to be 61 years AND 9 MONTHS before I can apply. That means I can't apply until September 29. After the internet application is completed, I have to set up an appointment for an "in person" visit to the local office. That will probably be the second week of October.
We had a great time at the last rally and will certainly miss being at this one.  The scenery should be beautiful in October!  Jack

Once those checks start rolling in I'll expect a little more out of you two.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Take the time you need to get all your ducks in a row so the fun can continue!
We'll mis you guys in October!

So far there are over a dozen that will be there.

We'll be thar!  Assuming that the creeks don't rise...which is very unlikely this year.
The mountain campgrounds will be scrounging for paying campers this fall...the lack of rain is going to make for a crappy leaf season.  We have 'leaf season here right now.  Zero rain for August....bummer!  My trees are shedding their leaves now.  Won't be any left for the fall.
Is the campground taking reservations for this 'non-rally?
I'll make the call and find out!   ;)
Looking forward to seeing everyone!   JR and Terri

Palmetto Cove has 148 spaces, & they have NEVER filled up! So they don't do reservations. I'm guessing the lack of being full is due to no showers & lack of advertising.

Of the other 2 rallies being held there that weekend, we already out number one of 'em & may out number the other one too! This will give us great clout for next years rally!  8)

Oh Yeah, Those with musical talent are invited to play & pick. BUT, there has been a request that an evening quiet time at 9:30 be observed so the early to bed types can get their much needed beauty sleep!  ;D

Kyle,
Even if this is an "Non-official" bus rally you're having in October, you are getting some pretty impressive busnuts planning on being at your rally.  I believe this will still be a success for you and know next year will definately be much bigger.

Good  Luck, we can entertain in the day time also you know, we will play it by ear with no certain times but observe the 9:30 curfew which is fine.  I also hope John & Wyonana can come to team up with JR & Terri for some good ole blue grass.

Here is a little taster of what to expect.

Gary

BTW, I thought ALL busnuts were impressive  ;D

I am looking forward to finally meeting Mr Fred Hobe, I've seen him a couple of times, but the crowd of fans around him was too thick.  ;D

Kyle,
all the busnuts in our circle are impressive as you indicated, but, some of our impressive friends deserve the credit for us doing this hobby or giving us directions to do it and I consider them the "Grand-fathers" we should all look up to and I do such as Fred & Jack and many, many more.  They all know who I mean for sure as I say it enough.

I love to give them the respect they all deserve now at rallies and gatherings and don't wait until saying it at a Euology, life is too short.

NEWS FLASH

Our very own Cliff is gonna give a seminar on troubleshooting roof top A/C's at the rally.

Well, he hasn't agreed to do it, . . . . yet. So we may have to coax him into doing it, but he has already demonstrated his superb abilities in all things busnut, so I forsee no possible reason for him to refuse this demand um mm, request. Yeah, that's it, a humble request. (That's my story & I'm sticking to it!  ;D )

Hey Cliff, if you agree to do this, we'll waive the non-rally fee.  ;D

Please?

If you don't, then NCBob will be obligated to provide a lecture on how they converted buses when he was a kid. Let me tell ya, if you think it's hard to drill out old crusty bolts with dull drill bits. . . Listening to Bob describe doing it with chipped flint is a story you won't soon forget!  ;D

We darn sure don't want NewbeeMC9 giving any demonstrations of his 'lift off' technique.  :o

Kyle,

We are planning on heading out on the 11th by 6:00 p.m., so we are hoping for an early arrival on the 12th, get a few hours snooze in a rest area on the way.

Since my 4905 is mostly shiny aluminum still, ya think there 's any chance they might confuse it for an Airstream on steroids.... ;D

I got a phone call tonight from the President of Palmetto Cove to inform me of the outcome of the board meeting that was called to discuss 'those bus people'.

The outcome is that we are welcome!  ;D  ;D  The Airstreamers have even offered to let us use the facilities provided they aren't holding a meeting - they will let us know their schedule.  ;D ;D

Seems the facts came out & the true nature of this bus nut crowd was revealed. The Cove members that met us at the July rally shared their experiences & all are looking forward to having us there.

I was asked to make sure we all understood the park rules concerning full hookups.
(Again, these are not their rules, but state/ county rules for campgrounds that do not have public bath houses).
No tents. RV's must be fully self contained. which means you must have waste water holding tanks & the proper valving & connecting hoses to dump into the sewer connection.
You must have a shower, functioning toilet, & a sink.

They have asked that we not put them in a position to have to refuse anyone, so I'm asking that you honor these requirements. There are other campgrounds in the area that have washroom facilities that the tenter's can use & come over for a visit.

Looks like I'll be there early on the 12th, ( maybe late on the 11th, depends on work)

Still no rally fee  ;D & the camping fee is $18/night, 7th night free.  ;D

You see Kyle, there is a God.  I told you in one way or other things would work out for your rally in October, now relax, we are all coming as we planned and will enjoy another good time getting together.  Now all everyone has to do is be sure to contact Kyle that you are coming for sure so he can have parking plans etc. for us to come.  It will or should be cooler by then we all hope and all those traveling long distances take your time and be safe in your travels.  I am really glad it worked out for you Kyle as I know the importance of this to you and a great opportunity for us to get together again.

Pametto Cove is about 50 miles from my house so my wife and I drove down yesterday afternoon. Nice drive on Highway 11 out of Chesnee, SC, and the park looked very good as well. I am planning to arrive on the morning of the 12th with my Eagle. As of this time there will be at least 2 buses traveling together maybe a couple more. See you there!

That is great news....

Airstreamers are the Busnuts of the camper crowd.....    Built to last.....

It doesn't surprise me that they would come to this conclusion....

Thanks for all of your hard work and politicking to make this happen.

For those who may still be undecided on wether or not to attend, here is a little story to pique your interest a little. . . .

A man from San Francisco , California decided to write a book about churches around the country.

Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes.  He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read

"Calls: $10,000 a minute."

Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.

The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way.

As he continued to visit churches in Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and across the United States, he found similar phones, with the same sign, and the same answer from each pastor.

Finally, he arrived in  South Carolina.  Upon entering a church near Palmetto Cove RV Park, behold - he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read

 "Calls: 35 cents."

Fascinated, the writer asked to talk to the pastor, "Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found a similar golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call.

Why?"

The pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in South Carolina now.....
Since you're in God's Country It's a local call."

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

See 'ya at The Cove in 4 weeks!
