Title: 2007 Non-Rally at The Cove, October 12 thru 14th
Post by: kyle4501 on September 18, 2007, 08:25:21 PM
2007 Non-Rally

I thought I'd start a new thread to bring everything up to date.
old thread =
http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=5282.0

Since the airstreamers who reserved the facilities first have offered to share them with us & eating together will allow more time for B.S. (bus stuff ;D) . . . . I’ve come up with a tenative non-schedule for the non-rally.

Friday:
6pm   Chicken & Dumplin’s  Spaghetti - We can keep this warm so the late arrivals will be able to have a hot meal as soon as they arrive. 8)

7pm   Auction to benefit The Cove –
The Local Airstream unit does this & we are invited to participate. If you’d like, you can donate something for them to auction off. In the past the items have been yard sale variety, some junk, but mostly good stuff  :)

Saturday:
8:00am      Airstreamers breakfast
8:30am      BusNuts breakfast – Pancakes & sausage

Lunch      Hamburgers –
         Patties – (Jon Morris)
         Buns – (Kyle Brandt)
         Condiments –
         Tomatoes –
         Lettuce –
         Chips -

6pm       BusNuts host dinner with Airstreamers
"Speedies Chicken" grilled chicken on skewers from Upstate NY, Regular and BBQ.– (Jack Hart)
         Potato salad –
         Cheese biscuits –
         Baked beans –
Baked Potatoes – (Kyle Brandt) bring your favorite topping to share with others.

SMORES

Sunday:
8:00am    Airstreamers breakfast
8:30am      BusNuts breakfast – Pancakes & sausage
9:00am   Church service

Lunch      Leftovers

I’ll need a new headcount for those wanting to attend these meals so I can know how much to get. If you post here, it will be easier for me to keep up  ;D.

If you’d like to, please post here if you are planning to bring a side or desert.

There is no rally fee, so if you like you can make a donation to help offset the food costs.

For the meals, bring your own plates, utensils, cups & drinks – that will ease the burden in the kitchen  ;D

We are bringing board games & some crafts for the kids so they aren't too boored in the evenings.
P.S. bring your empty gallon milk jugs for a kid's craft.

Kyle,
Assign me what you would want us to bring, there will be two/three of us if Ash can come.  Looks like the temps will be a lot better this time.  Don't try to do all the expenses on your own now, we will bring what you ask and also a donation for things you did purchase for breakfast etc.

Kyle (and all others), looks like ya'll are gonna have a ANOTHER great rally!  Sure we wish we could join ya'll. Maybe the next one.  Jack

PS: Kyle, see what happens when you host a great rally, people expect you to continue by doing more rallies and they will get bigger!

Jack, that's why it's a Non-Rally -- I can't be blamed for how it turns out  ;D  ;D  ;D
Besides, I have GREAT friends that are willing to share their experiences of hosting big rallys - believe it or not, I was listening to all you & Paula had to say  ;D

Some days, there is no shortage of people telling me where to go :o

From the list of who is attending, It will be a GREAT time regardless of anything I do!

Gary, thanks watching out for me & for all your help - you know I need it  ;D
My goal is to have a gathering where all in attendance can contribute as they can & no one is discouraged from attending due to fees or etc.

With the "schedule" we can sign-up when we get there to allow everyone who wants a chance in the kitchen  ;D

Kyle, this is a great recipe for cooked custard ice cream. The real old fashioned kind.

HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
Bowyer Family Recipe
Cooked Custard Vanilla Ice Cream
(Makes 6 quarts)

INGREDIENTS:
•   4- tablespoons flour
•   5- cups sugar
•   ½- teaspoon salt
•   8- eggs (large)
•   8 cups (2- quarts) whole milk
•   5- 12 oz cans evaporated milk
•   1- pint Heavy whipping cream
•   8- teaspoons vanilla
•   25-30 lbs ice
•   4-6 cups rock salt
•   4 quart double boiler
COOKING DIRECTIONS:
•   Mix flour, sugar and salt. (Make sure flour is well mixed into sugar to prevent lumps in ice cream).
•   Stir in eggs, slightly beaten.
•   Stir in 6 cups whole milk, gradually. (reserve 2 cups for final fill of freezer)
•   Cook mixture in double boiler, (start with hot water), stirring constantly at first, until custard thickens slightly. (180-185 degrees). Custard will have curdled appearance, which will disappear in freezing.
•   Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Mixture may be placed in refrigerator to cool down overnight for faster freezing. (All ingredients may be placed in refrigerator overnight to cool).
FREEZING DIRECTIONS:
•   When cool, pour mixture into freezer can. (Contents should just cover top of beater bar)
•   Add evaporated milk.
•   Add Whipping Cream
•   Add vanilla.
•   Add strawberries or chocolate( if making flavored ice cream).
•   Freeze, adding layers of ice and then layer of rock salt until freezer can is full. Plug in freezer. When freezer stops (30-35 minutes), unplug motor, remove top and remove paddle.

•    Replace top, fill freezer with a mixture of ice and rock salt, cover with heavy towel, and let age for a couple of hours. Be sure and cover hole in top of cover to prevent salt from entering ice cream.

•   NOTES:
•   For Strawberry flavor, delete two cups of milk and add 24 ounce box of frozen sweetened strawberries, which have been thawed.
•
•   For Chocolate, delete one cup of milk and add 1 cup of Hershey chocolate
•
Retyped from original recipe and notes collected over 20 years including quadrupling original recipe and experiments with different mixtures. It is believed that the original recipe was included in a book included with the ice cream freezer. Richard Bowyer, Spencer, WV, 14 June 2001. rev. 060302

NOTE: I have used it as soon as the custard is cooked and is still hot. Just takes a little longer to freeze.

Richard

OK, I put my crack team of weather investigators on this and found that the average high is 73 on that weekend and as low as 49 in the Palmetto cove area.   I must admit there were a few anamolies that showed it as low as 31.  But in that remote circumstance we would just save on ice needed.

Not being one to leave anything to chance , we will bring our Florida winter clothes, if we can find were we put those sweat shirts.   ;D

Kyle,
My wife is on a trip with her sisters that weekend so I will be by myself in the Eagle. I can bring anything you need or I can provide $$ to help with your expense. Either is fine with me. Still checking with the other coaches to see if they will be able to make it. Love to be in a coach caravan!!!
Hey Ned, you can bet I will be close by!  :)

All looks great!  I've somehow missed this new thread, but we'll contribute....to whatever you need.  I'll have to get my spousal component to sort the food thing out.   I'll pick from the list on the first post?  Or, if you have any unmet needs, let me know.  We are still planning on coming down on Thurs afternoon.  I got nothing going on and T's off Thursday and Friday.  Lucky T!  We can assist with any setup or whatever may need attending too.
Put us down for two adults.  Or at least one adult.  Terri will be the representing adult. I'll be there too! ;)
Kyle, reckon the Airstream auction could use a couple Harley hats?  I will donate a couple.  Those things always seem popular.
See that pancakes and sausage are being served...YUMMMY!  I suppose they couldn't start the breakfast at about 10ish?   ??? That would be sooo nice!   :P ;D    Just joking!  I'd starve to death before I'm ready for breakfast at 0830.    I'm a nighty owl.  You'll see.
You know that last year in Arcadia, Gary, Bill, Ross, and me were the only ones up...@2000 hours.  And we were making TOO MUCH NOISE.    BTW, Gary, bring your guitar, we'll do some of that crying in your Beer  malt-beverage music.   :)
Hope the weather's nice...we were up just north of there last weekend with Anita and John (who are planning on coming) and the low was about 49*.  Cool huh :o
BTW, is there an indoor place for a small group if the weather does turn off coolish?   We'll pick a little music if it ain't too cold.   May I suggest the Ladies showers?  I find that the sound quality is usually good in that sort of environment.
May have Greg Tollinger and his banjo lined up for Sat eve if he doesn't find a paying job.  You know how these banjo pickers are...hard to corral.  Now if any of our busnuts plays the bango...bring it on..and anything else.  We'll have a jam!
We don't care how may Airstreamers wish to join...no problem at all.  We all did a party job in Brevard, NC last weekend...just had a large time!  That was about 30 miles north of Palmetto CG.
Kyle, if you need any specific help, call me  704-650-0235
Warning Gary, we are doing Chimney Rock again this year...same time same place.  You didn't sing last year???? You will this year!  BRING YOUR GUITAR!  The shindig is on Oct 19,20th.  Wynona will be there looking for you!   ;D

Best, JR and Terri

Hey JR,
There are a few Harley riders in the Airstream bunch, & probably some wishIstillcoulds ;D

There is a lounge that can handle ~20 people easily & there is Palmetto Hall that will accomodate as many as will be there, so we should be able to accomodate the weather  ;D
Sad to report there ain't no ladies showers :(   I suppose we could construct some 'Les Nesman' (WKRP) style, might have to be carefull who we let use them tho . . .  :o

Wish my social security checks were started, then I'd be able to be there first. But, as it is, Uncle Sam wants me to work another 20 years.  :'(    So I'll see ya on Friday morning  ;D

Kyle,

Good Luck with your Non Rally!

Sounds like lots of fun.

Hopefully we can make it sometime down the road. Like Gary has told me, it will get bigger and bigger. Although I think the smaller rallies are more fun for all.

Enjoy and don't forget to post some pics.  ;)

Happy Trails,

Paul

Now let's see; I own a;
Moutain dulcimer.
Fiddle, (The difference in a fiddle and violin is that a violin plays classical music.) ;D
A trumpet.
A hand piano.
An electric Lap Steel guitar.
A round neck dobro.
A square neck dobro.
A flute.
And a couple of other ones too.
Which do I bring?
Jack
PS, Oh I left out one tiny little tidbit of information; I can't play a single one of them!

Jack, this is bluegrass...skill ain't got nothing to do with it.  Bring all those instruments!   We judge "quality" of our music by who'll stand and play the longest...and maybe the loudest!    ;)
BTW, what's a "hand piano"?
See ya, JR

JR, I should have said 'thumb' piano.  It can be a gourd or nice piece of would hollowed out with a top and usually sound holes in the side.  It has between 7 and up to 21 little bars on topp that you strike with your thumb to make the music.  Kind of pretty when played well.  Not to loud though.
DId I meantion that I sung a special once in chuch...they didn't EVER ask me to sing again.....................

Sounds like a 'tater flute...with keys.   Gary may want a little "steel" backup.   Gary's our resident country music vocalist.

Kyle, Jackie will make some scalloped potatoes, some brownies (for the kids), strawberry delight dessert and her world famous Rum Cake, of which none of the BusNuts has yet to partake.   She makes a side dish of Rum sauce for a garnish....so if you spot it...be among the first because in a bunch of alcoholics it doesn't last long!  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

But then there are no 12 step people in our group are there?

Bob

I have been trying to arrange affairs so we would be able to join U at your Non-Rally at the Cove.  As of a phone call this afternoon everything has gone on hold at least till the middle of Oct.

I know everyone will have a grand old time.  We did in Timmonsville and we will do it again.

Enjoying the journey in NC,

Kyle,

I sent you a separate email a few weeks ago confirming we would be at the Cove. Thought I would do so here also to let others know.

This will be the maiden trip for the Ex NJT MC 9 5142 and the three of us. From what I have read it looks like we have picked a great non-ralley for our first trip. Right now I am planning on coming down from Va. on Friday. Might even pull out of here Thursday just to get away from the real world a little quicker.

We Will help out or contribute anyway we can. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi Breck,
We are planning on going over on Thursday...if you arrive on Thursday you won't be alone in that sea of Airstreams!
I'll bet the campsite choices will be better on Thursday.

Ron, yep, we got pickers.   Decisions decisions!  It could be right cool out there, but Kyle says there's an indoor area available for a jam.

Too bad Gene cannot make the trip to PC...he cooks up some good BBQ!

if you happen to come through Lenoir NC or forest city or rutherfordton NC you can join the bus caravan to the cove. Tom Hamrick and myself and several others are planning on meeting some where on Hy 221 and going together to chessnee SC and the along beautiful Hy 11 to the cove.

keep in touch and we will have final plans as we get closer to the non-rally

we are not far off i77 and i40 send us a note on your planed route down.

as of now the date of leaving is Friday morning. If you get as far as Lenoir we will try to find you a place to light down.

Should be a sight gm's, eagles, and MCI's going down the road together.

Kyle, You got space for a last minute bus. I may do some bonding with my dad and bring him over there. Not sure yet gotta see how this interior job goes and get enough fuel money together. Gotta see if I can get any gigs over in that area, If the banjo player can then I know I can  ;D  Here's an announcement you'll never hear over the PA in a concert hall.
"will the banjo player please move his Ferrari."  ;D

We'll toss out an Airstream if we have to to make room for ya!  :o ;D 8)

Seriously tho, there will be plenty of room.

148 spaces & ~ 50 are signed up so far for the 3 rallys there that weekend. Looks like the busnuts will have the most there.  ;D

Yo!  Google has a great sat view of the park.  Kyle, where's the buses going to park?  I'm going to pay for a campsite for Anita and John when I arrive so that they will be located next to me.  That isn't like "reservations"...hmmm?
Breck, are you going down I-81W and catch I-26S or East as it may be?   Watch that hill coming out of Asheville (actually just past Hendersonville).  Keep your retarder on.
If you find yourself near Charlotte, come on by and I'll show you the rest of the way.
Well, today we celebrate 25 years of matrimony.   Had our silver anniversary.  Never thought I'd live this long!  ;)  Been a good ride!
Looking forward to the October 12th weekend!
Cliff, and NCBob and Jon, when are ya'll coming up....and down?

It's about 30 miles West of SC Hwy 11/I-26 in Western South Carolina.  Follow highway 11 towards Cleveland, SC (not Ga).  R onto Hwy 276, L onto Hwy 8, R onto Table Rock Rd.    Campgrounds on the Left a couple of miles down Table Rock Rd.
The campground is Palmetto Cove Campground, Cleveland, SC.  Appears to have plenty of hookups and room.
Go to Google Maps, and find I-26 and Hwy 11 just South of the NC/SC line.   Follow 11 West and you'll see the area.
Kyle has a web address posted on one of the early posts.   I'll dig it up and repost.
Where are you in the "Carolinas"?  We're in the Charlotte area. If you need a watering hole or break, give me a call.  704 650 0235  I got lots of room to park a bus...or 10 buses.  We're heading over to Palmetto cove on Thursday mid morn.
Hope to see you there!  JR

i know this is a stupid question, especially after 3 pages of posts, but where is this rally?

it sound south of us, and we're goin to be in the carolina's at that time doing shows.

Thanks BK & JR for the links & directions!

First post on page 1 in this thread has a link to another thread concerning this non-rally. I only mention this to make sure everyone understands the park limitations - the main one being that the campers must be fully self contained with functioning toilets, sinks & waste tanks. These are gubberment rules since the campground does not have any bath houses.

All are welcome - & as long as you meet the requirements, you can stay overnight . . . . .  ;D

JR

Congrats JR on both,  anniversary and living this long :)

I'll prolly be coming up friday.  just a suggestion, If the first buses ADAM 69, that could be a gathering area.

As for the bus nut Non-Rally, I count ~18 units, mostly busses but there will be some of those "trailer people" & a class C or two  ;D

The Airstreamers will have ~20 units & the other group is expected to have ~10 units.

Kyle, will an indoor area be readily available for jams?   If the weather's nice, we won't go inside....we'll pick outdoors.  But...if the weather is -40* and drifting snow...well, that just wouldn't be any fun picking outside.  Have you any idea where in the park the buses are going to placed as a group?
No no biggie, just curious.
One of the best campground places I ever played in was the ladies room.  Showers and all.
Great boo....ummmm acoustics.  Yeah. ;D  I know, nuthing funny here either.
'There will be!
Ron, you going to be there?  Bringing yer gitar are ye?
That oughta give us another guitar, bass, mando, and I hope like H a Ferrari driving bango player.  Then we got John an Wynona's and Gary's vocals.  Banjer player is up in Hendersonville.  Ain't too fer away.  I suppose that I should mention that Greg has his Ferrari painted to resemble some sort of old Chrylser sedan.   Real smart on his part.  His Ferrari hasn't be stolen yet.  Incogneeter you know.
BTW, Gary, what instruments you going to bring?  You have a guitar and banjo? Se?
It'll all work out!  garuntee.     We'll see what happens!  JR

The heated & air conditioned 'Palmetto Hall' will be available for us to use IF the airstreamers don't need it for a meeting or something. They have a schedule of when they need it, & we can look at it & make our plans around that.  ;D
When you are jammin, I expect there will be more than a few Airstreamers in the audience.

BTW, if it's -40, I'll be at home - 'cause I'm leaving well before the hard freeze  :o You know how thin skinned some S&S campers can be! LOL

Jon, will they allow open..or even not so open, fires?  Don't reckon it makes much difference since Ron's got the burner anyway...or should that be Mr. Charlydavidson?  Harley will be after Ron's butt soon enough for infringement!  ;)  Just as soon as they see the web address!   :D That's definitely funny!  I don't care who you are!  ;D
Around here they don't have enough water to put out fires.   Things just burn down.
There is good news though, we've had a major drought in the this area for most of the summer.  Yet, every time I've been out in the bus this year, it's rained like #@ll.  So either way this time, I win.  I'd rather see nice warm, dry weather, but rain's OK as long as we got an indoor place to do our thingy.  We've been to 7 events this summer and I've had to put up the awning at every one of them at some point due to weather.  It got ripped off at Oakboro.  Hell, I'm coming to Kyle's Non-Rally anyway...in spite of the weather!   ;)
Ron, you got any gigs booked for the Biketoberfest at Myrtle Beach?  You were there last year?
Oh well, I'm sitting here listening to shag music (I know  :-[) I ripped and burned for T.
Just bought a new laptop, and I had to sort out the burner anyway.  May as well screw up her music.  Found out the the burner when set on "fastest" burn speed will overrun the buffer.  Loses about a half the music.   We got it straight now.  Just another day...just another day....
Looking forward to seeing everyone again!  JR
BTW,  Ron, does your fire ring operate on LP?  I've got a new fill sitting here.  Could bring it if your fire ring is LP and will attach to a 20lb gas grill tank?  Let me know.

It holds fire wood. no need for LP.  Why would Harley go after me? I'm not infringing on them Their name is Harley Davidson mine is Charley Davidson. Nothing booked for Myrtle Beach, When does that happen?

Oct 3-7th.  Got too expensive to operate vendors booth at Myrtle Beach.   I'm not going, several  friends are.   Leaving Wed this week.
Just joking about the HD "infringement"....I didn't realize your real name was Charley.  I'm sure they'll accept that.   And settle.  Out of court.  Maybe!    ;)

I'd just scan thru the posts on this thread to see most of who is gonna be there.  I'm guessing ~20 buses + a few s&s. I immagine there will be several busnuts that haven't signed up droping in too.  ;D

For those wanting to know what else is needed -
I'll do some chipering & post what else is needed this weekend.

Just out of curousity who all is coming to this non-rally?

I'm coming.   Serviced the bus today.  It even started right up. A good sign.
August and September has been a little slack this year.  Nothing really worth doing.  Too hot and to dry.
Kyle, the food needs thing would help.  T is asking me what we are gonna bring...about every day.  I already said I'd bring some cheap beer liquid consumables...she didn't care for that idea at all.  I'll still do it!  T is the consumate organizer...she wants to get everything done up and a ribbon tied around it.  Amazing we've stayed together.  I'm the consumate "run what'cha got"...who needs plans?   :)
From the looks of the posts, a good many buses will be there.
A sampling of bus owners that will be present:
Huggy Bear,  "Uncle Ned" and Wilma
Kyle
Jon "NewBee"
John and Anita Bishop (musicians, Anita is a great female vocalist)
Breck
Bill Haga
Gary L   (a vocalist, and a good sound man! Dude has his own recording studio!)
Cliff     "FloridaCliff"
Bob      "NCBob" and Jackie
Tom Hamrick
Jack Hart   the "speedies" guy.  Gotta try that!
Me
This is about 10 buses that are about guarunteed to be there...more will probably  arrive. This is from the posts off this list only.  About the same group that came to the T'ville rally...with a couple of exceptions.  Gene Lewis was planning on coming down, but a family member is ill and the family has gathered there.  Thinking about him and his family.  Gene was the chef at the last T'ville rally and did a fine job!
Let the rallying begin!  ;D
There are a good many bus owners in the area.  Bill is going to be over on Wednesday...I'll be there on Thursday...middle of the day.
Hope to do a little picking on Fri and Sat evening.
JR

As for the fire pits - I don't know. The shelter has a fireplace in it. And I think Ron's will be no different than a charcoal grill. As long as we don't leave a mess . . . . .

I asked my parents about the fire pit thinggy. (Mom & Dad have been members of The Cove for many years) They have never had campsite fires in the past. Mom would rather us not push the issue just yet as some may still be a little nervous about "those bus people".

In the future, we will figure something out, but for now it will be best if we play it softly by their rules.

Yep.  I remember well.  Cliff: down by 9P...Cliff's better half partying with us in the covered area  til 12!  ;)
Cleaned out Bob's bus pretty good.  Burned thru Meinharts stash pretty good too during the first T'ville.    Cannonball Run BOB, whatcha bringing this year?  :)
Regarding the fire....what about a nice burning man?   Something the Airstreamers could remember eh!   ;D
Ron, we were planning on backing you up.  You're the pro musician...
I'm not real sure that I'd give up a paying gig for our Sat nite jam...the opportunity to put a face on some of the busnuts may well be worth giving up a couple gigs.  How much did you say those gigs pay?   ::)
Our music is worth about what you'll pay for it.  Mostly bluegrass (about all that's gonna happen with acoustic instruments), and a little rock.  Probably be 3 of us, but may have a banjo picker...he's a very good banjo picker too!   He's working on coming down from Hendersonville on Sat afternoon.  Anita is a great vocalist.  The rest of us....??
Gary, you gonna bring some intruments?
I play with a working band, but they are not part of this weekend.  As a matter of fact, they are playing with a borrowed bass player on Sat.  Because I'm gonna be at a BUS'N NON-Rally!   :D   How 'bout that....I'm giving up a paid gig too!
See all ya'll soon!  JR  8)
BTW Kyle, post what you decide on the food thingy.  Man, I'm glad I'm not in charge of logistics!    I could donate some funds?!  Whatever works.

Well, NCBob has informed me that he is bringing the world's best pork sausage for us to savor at breakfast.  8)  ;D  8)

That got me to thinking - - - some might prefer biscuts & gravy with that sausage instead of being limited to pancakes.

Anyone up for bringing biscuts? We have 2 ovens in Palmetto Hall to cook 'em & the uncooked frozen biscuts are easy & usually really good, especially at that hour of the day  ;)  ;D

Anyone want to bring gravy?

Don't forget, Sunday lunch is planned as a leftover buffet  :o

I'm figuring on ~75 people, I hope we don't run out before Sunday lunch!
(although I could benefit from missing an occasional meal  ;D )

I'll finalize the needs list this weekend as mom finishes her shopping.
We were hoping to be better organized sooner, but hey, I am who I am  :)

BTW, 1 1/2 weeks ago Dad had a disagreement with his Economy PowerKing tractor. The tractor lost, rolled over & yielded to Dad. But Dad broke his wrist & 3 ribs subduing the recaltrant(?) tractor. Good news is he is healing well & expects to be able to attend the weekend festivities. I think he is looking forward to meeting y'all as much as I am.  ;D

Tom Hamrick,  Looking forward to finally meeting you.  You and Ned should stop by EricB's and put some peer pressure on him to come by.

Looks like gonna be quite the turnout, Should we have name tags to help us "short of memory" types?

I may even have to change my handle to Chonda or Chusquavarna.   Ned might wannabee Chusaberg :D

I like the name tag idea. I had already thought about bringing the one I have for Eagles International. Looks like the numbers are growing.

Looks like now our caravan will include 3 GMCs, 1 American Eagle Motor Home and my Eagle. Out to be quite a site coming down Highway 11.

NewbeeMC9, Be good to meet you as well. I have talked with Eric and I think Gary has as well. Last time I spoke with him I think he was coming down maybe Saturday.

Christy's Rally Information Copied from another board.

Quote
For those planning on attending the Jersey Roundup, I just wanted to make one more post encouraging anyone who has not reserved their spot directly with The Big Red Barn campground, to please do so asap. They are down to only a
couple of spots left for us. After those spots are full, they will attempt to find a place for any late-comers to park, but can not guarantee hookups. Their phone # is 417-358-2432.

If you somehow missed the earlier posts about the roundup, here are the details such as they are:

The Jersey Roundup is an annual bus rally, open to all busses and wanna-be's. This is a small gathering, probably around 10-14 busses, which
allows you to get time to really visit with other bus owners/converters and glean info, admire workmanship, or just swap lies. It is held at the Big Red Barn RV Park, in Carthage Missouri on Oct 12-14th, 2007.

We don't have much of a schedule for this rally, with the only structure really being the fact that we seem to get together for the evening meals and lots of time relaxing around the campfire swapping stories. Eat, drink,
relax, shoot the bull! As you can tell, we have our priorities lined out pretty well, ha ha.

I have a list of those who have registered with the campground already, so if you haven't done so, please drop me a line at chicks@ionet.net after you call them for your spot, so I can add you to the confirmed list. Thanks and see you guys really soon, Christy Hicks

Not trying to be mean. Mike and Jay Hill are going to Christy's rally, I'm building cabinets in their bus right now. But they aren't going to take this bus. I should be arriving in SC on Thursday

I found something else I will bring to the rally, if anyone wants them.

I have four large conversion van windows.  The big ones in the back, with a small slider on the bottom.

These are NOS, never installed.  They have the inside trim ring.

They are for Ford vans and have a slight curve in them from top to bottom.

Send me a PM if interested.

OK Kyle, ...thar's the list  I've been looking for.   I'll print the above list off and bring that!
T's real good a following a list.   What sorta hot dogs do you want???  Fat or skinny?  I like UN-healthy hot dogs myself.   A cholesterol-free hot dog falls into the dog-food group!  ;D
I'll get everything but the ice cream part??  Not sure what that would be?  Haven't made home grown ice cream for too many years.
I have plenty of fridge space, but not much freezer space.
Any idea where in the campground we will be located?  Debating on whether to bring the golf cart?
Will the Busnuts be parked together?  More or less?   I may not have any need to go too far afoot!
See ya, JR  8)

THANKS JR !!!!  8)

I ain't much on hotdogs, but the all beef taste better . . . But if someone has a strong preference, they can bring their favorite too!
We will try to park close together, but if you don't bring the cart, you know what Murphy is gonna do  :o  ;)
Besides, if you don't need it, you could use it to bribe the kids . . .

I think I have some peaches in the freezer . . . maybe those can be used for icecream if no one has a better idea.

If anyone has access to bread that is a little wider than loaf bread and can bring several loafs, it is good for putting on your hand and pulling the Speddies chicken off the skcewer on.
I know down in Florida there is a brand I think is called "Bahama" that is about an inch wider than normal.
Thanks a ton!

See I tell ya I just don't know how/where these NASTY rumors get started! I We don't use that NASTY Delo! Ask anyone that was here at our rally! We popped the top on a brand new drum of RotellaT 40W while they was here! (but only because we didn't plan ahead and order a barrel of Exxon XD-3 in advance and our distributor wanted to sell us 11 ~ 5 gallon pails instead, since he didn't have a barrel on hand!)

;D  BK  ;D

PS Cliff I tried running the 60 series on that peanut oil but after 50 miles it was like water and really nasty! So I went bact to RotellaT 15W40! LOL!

Another note about Palmetto Cove Campground.

It is staffed by volunteers ( - no paid staff answering the phone)   :-\

They DO NOT accept reservations!
We have the blessing of the board of directors, BUT, it was not planned early enough to be added to all of the schedules. So if you call asking about "the bus rally" or the "non rally" they may not know anything about it. It doesn't matter what some misinformed individual answering the phone says.

(A friend called & the person that answered the phone told him there was no rally & some other BS  ??? )

They have a laundry room, so bring your soap & quarters if you need to use it  ;D

They have some 50A sites & the rest are 30A. It is usually first come - first served for site selection. Since there are 2 other rallys there this weekend, they may try to park the different attendees according rally group.

Some bus nuts are getting there on Wednesday. I'll drive mom & dad (& his broken ribs) up in their motor home on Thursday night & drag the silver bullet up Friday morning.

Are we all going to be in a group or just spread out? do they have a section for us? I need 30 amp for the bus but 50 for the dryer so if it's only one or the other I need 30 amp. Looks like I'll be there Thursday evening.

Title: Re: October 12 thru 14th Non-Rally at The Cove
Post by: kyle4501 on October 07, 2007, 06:37:01 PM
They usually let you pick the site from what is available when you get there.

Sorry I don't have better answers, but I'm new at rally planning ;D  That & the fact that The Cove is not like regular campgrounds. We'll just experience it & make notes for future improvements

I'm wanting to dispel some misconceptions that some of the regulars of The Cove (just a few, but they can be mouthy  :o ) have concerning 'bus people'. If we're successful, we'll have a much easier time with future rallys there.  ;D

Kyle, looks like Jerry Campbell is going to make the trip too!  Jerry's got one of those w-i-d-e buses.   Amazing the difference 6 inches makes!   :'(
I agree with what Nick sez, your gonna have the biggest NON-Rally on the East Coast!
Regarding the power boxes, I only need 30A, someone else can have the 50A boxes.   The weather looks (I know, shouldn't talk about this) about perfect!  Won't even need the AC during the day.  May want a little heat at night! I'm bringing my bum-warmer!  ;)
Mid 70s during the day...mostly dark and coolish at night.
BTW, has anyone priced 'maters lately???   :o  $hi....nevermind.   ::)
I got condimentes for the 'burgers covered and also bought 28 hot dogs.  If we need'em, we got'em.  ALSO bought some honeybuns for Cliff's young'uns!  That oughta wire'em!  A sugar fix is good!
Not really sure what "jams and jellies" actually describes, but true to my redneck behaviour, we got grape jelly, and strawberry jam...???  Big jars too!  ;)  Oughta take care of a veggins sweet needs...if the horneybuns don't!   Maybe save some of NCBob's sausage....for me.  I love sausage and pancakes!  YUM YUM What time is brunch?
Later, JR

Being that this thread is so long...let's not forget the Airstreamer's Auction. Kyle has asked if we might donate something as a gesture of a "Thank You" for being allowed to use their beautiful facility.  It doesn't have to be anything big and expensive just practical and new, please.

I guess, just like the big rallies, there'll be a few of us who will bring some bus items for others to avail themselves of for a buck or two.  I have some of those items too but would like to see if there's any interest in a pair of Kennedy Machinist's chests with the precision tools I've had since I was an apprentice. All or by the piece...I don't care. There's mic's, dial calipers, 1-2-3 blocks and Vee blocks etc.  Lots of goodies!

If interested PM me...enough interest..I'll bring 'em.

Bob,

Remember the breakfast Cooks (Kyle & Cliff) reserve the right to look over ALL goods before offering them for sale.

We do this as a FREE service, because if we don't want it, or can't find a use for it, it must be junk.

Of Course, we will hide it under the bus haul it away for free  ;)

Geez Cliff...you guys are soo good to me! :D

Kyle and I were talking a few ago and the mention of my helping out came up and I said, "Sure, as long as I can have a cup o' coffee to get my eyes opened", and he asked about a large coffee maker. I don't have one..I think we took advantage of the fact that cat had one or two.  Does anyone attending have, or have access to, a 20 or 40 cup coffee maker we might ask them to bring for the 'early birds' in the morning who need their caffeine fix?. Last non-rally the wife made Lemonade for the youngsters but only in quart batches and it went over like Gangbusters. If there's a large whatever for the lemonade or ice tea...that might be a help as well.

The ball is in your court BusNuts. ;)

Kyle, a couple of questions for those that might be coming by auto.

Since there are no public restrooms, do you think someone might be willing to share their potty if the need arises?

Are there any motels in the vicinity and what would be the possibility of getting a reservation?

Do you think anyone would be willing to offer the use of a cooktop to cook custard for homemade ice cream?

Do you think the the Karaoke Disc Jockey would be willing to share the mike with a Tammy Wynette type?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Richard

Richard, on Sat afternoon, you won't need the karaoke jockey, you'll have access to a backup band.   Looks like Sat afternoon we'll have a banjo, guitar (two with Ron), mando, and a bass.  That's almost a band!  Now if we can just learn to play those things before the weekend!   ???
Is Gary bringing the karaoke machine? Gary?
Regarding motels, as Jon said, there are nice motels in Brevard with is 22 miles up 276.
There's a new Hampton Inn...we stayed there 2 weeks ago.  Nice.  There may be others.  Brevard has a good bit of food, flavor and motels.  Good BBQ place across the street (sort of) from the Hampton Inn.
From Brevard, you can head back north toward the Ashville airport and quickly get to the Interstate.    Don't drive over on 64...that's a nightmare.
Let me know if interested and I'll get you some local directions...from real mountain people!
And Richard, don't worry about filling holding tanks, aren't these sites full hookup?
Won't be a problem either way!  Come'on down!  You're welcome to use our facilities too.  And Miss Lazy is welcome to recuse herself to the great indoors should she wish to get inside.  May be a little cool there on Saturday.  70 during the day....maybe mid 40s at night. :)
That reminds me, Kyle, if it does turn off bad weather, will we be allowed to pick in a room?  Is there an unused area where it ain't 40 or 50 degrees?  I know that there's no wimmins bath house...so that's out.   :(
We'll see what is available when I get there.   We'll have to get with Ron aka Charley Davidson and see what he wants to do.
Whatever works for the masses!
JR

Depends on the time. We have use of Palmetto Hall except when the Airstreamers are using it. THey have a schedule that we can look at when we get there & plan accordingly.

Jr & Kyle,
I will be coming with my keyboard this time and not my Karaoke system.  I am having terrible back problems again, but caused by lack of medicine and will explain.  I will have help loading up my equipment in my S&S but I will need help to remove when we get there at the cove.  I will have a PA system with me and a couple of Mic's for anyone to use.  As Kyle has said we will have to work around the schedule of the airstreamers but I have no doubt they will enjoy being entertained by us all.  We can do it perhaps in the daytime etc. or anytime but we will get something hopefully where we can all jam etc.

I have been practicing for two weeks now on keyboard, as I previously stated on another post as I have not used my keyboard in 5 years now, well since I bought the Rustless Money Pit.  I will do my best to do many Merle and Hank SR songs in the BLUES style.  I am really looking forward to us all having a good time, the size of this rally will sure grow in the next two years to bounds not imagined.  I Promise you kyle!!  No doubt the boys from up in Delaware will all caravan down here one day real soon and many more from other areas also will join us at Kyle's Rallies. All you guys coming now and the excitement expressed in these threads has just got to get a true bus nut wanting to get involved if they are within a decent travel range for their budget.

Those of you traveling long distances, (Fred & Carolyn & Cliff & Julie & Family, Captain Ron & Dad) and those I do not know of your travel distance, travel safe, slow and come hungry for food and song.  We will look forward to the travel caravans arriving at the cove for Kyle's annual fall "Non-Bus Rally".

Gary

Sounds like between Ron and Gary we'll have plenty of evening entertainment...so I'll get the banjo player down for the afternoon and we'll plan on an outdoor (preferred) picking session Sat afternoon.  Won't be too cool to enjoy the great outdoors during the day!
I have no problem with entertaining the Airstreamers, or working around them for a warm place to pick Sat nite...or any other nite! ;)
It'll be up to Ron and Gary for Thursday and Friday...Anita, John and Greg will be down on Saturday afternoon....Anita and John are now living in Brevard.
Gary, you'll get plenty of help with your equipment...back problems are a bummer~!  :(
See you, JR

I have a portable wheel scale, is anyone interested in a side to side weight on their coach?

I might have to call in sick for the rest of the week. LOL

I have a portable wheel scale, is anyone interested in a side to side weight on their coach?

One could establish the total weight of the bus by weighing all the wheels?  That's a question.
Could get all wheel weights and then one would know where the next case of beer..ummm malt beverage should be stashed!  'course, then you gotta factor in the 'shift' in weight related to the blackwater tank.  Would that be considered a "Yellow Shift"...you know. Like "Red Shift" and "Blue Shift"??  Einstein?   And then there's a lateral shift related to freshwater relocation.... Sorry.  I digress.  ::)
Are these scales 'drive on?  Like DOT uses to lighten truckers pockets?  That'll get you legal in a hurry.
I'd like to make an appointment for the scales on Thursday, 12 noon.  Since your taking off the rest of the week.  Calling in sick eh?  Cannot hire good engineers anymore...especially bus owning engineers!   ;)
Don't worry about Thursday Kyle.   If you have'em, I might want to see what the lateral weights are on Sunday when I get ready to go.   Don't bring the scales for me...don't want to put you to that much effort unless someone else wishes to weigh their bus.
Reckon it'll be me an Bill entertaining those Airstreamers on Thursday.. Bill and Phyllis gets the job on Wednesday!  Who's coming on Thursday?
BTW, in the unlikely event anyone has not seen the weather forecast, bring your snowsuit!  Low in lower to mid 40s.   Be sure the heater's working!  Highs will be upper 60s to low 70s.  It was 93* here today...gawd!~
The big Lowes Motor Speedway race is this weekend and the local worrying class are worried about all those cheapo campers having enough heat.  They won't be running around nekkid in the infield this year!  Probably not...?  :o
Bus is sitting out beside the home...all washed up and ready to go!  PARTY TIME!!   ;D
BTW II, anyone know what the park accepts for payment?  Credit cards, checks, cash?
Bill, call me when you figure that out...I'm gonna park next to you  We have identical buses and all that!   :D

Mom asked what beverages we were having with the meals. Oops! I forgot that since I usually drink water. So bring your favorite beverage for meals.

A side note (not that any of us drink the fruit of the vine or what have you), the park rules strongly encourage 'drinking' to be limited to your site. Not in the buildings. & please be as discrete as practical.
If this rally is like the others I've been to - the above comes naturally.  :)

I know they have taken cash & my personal check, but I'm not sure about the credit card, I haven't tried that since mine stays at it's limit LOL

I'll bring the scale & run-up block. It's an old dot scale. I don't know how accurate it is, but it should be good for the side to side check for balance.

Well, seems like we are the first ones to get here.  Nice place.  Because there are two other groups who have booked their rallies for the same weekend, they will putting the buses in unused spaces between Airstreams that are parked for storage (quiet neighbors, LOL).  There is a large meeting hall with cooking facilities, tables, chairs, etc. which we'd guess is "Palmetto Hall".  There is also a large covered pavilion (pole barn type structure) with picnic tables.  Attached to the pavilion at one end is an enclosed game room/social room, but we don't know if the use of that is restricted.  The Airstreamers have built nice facilities here and it's clear that they take good care of it.

To answer one of DML's questions, there is a Men's room and a Ladies' room accessible from the outside of the game room, at the end of the building.  No showers, but very clean toilets and sink in each room.

They take only cash and checks, no credit cards.

The grocery store (an IGA in Marietta) is about a 25 minute drive, one way.  The larger grocery store (Ingles) is 3 or 4 miles beyond that, in Traveler's Rest.  At the Ingles, diesel fuel is available -- yesterday's posted price was $2.79 IIRC.

There is a land line you can use in the lounge. I think there is a time limit on how long you can use it tho.  :(

It is unusual for cell phones to work there. Jack Conrad was able to use Paula's cell phone to access the internet once when he was there.

Just to clarify our earlier post about the facilities here.  Spoke to a gentleman cutting the grass and he indicated none of the buildings or the pavilion could be used by the bus group as they are reserved for the Airstreamers group, but if they invite us to use them it would be okay.  I suppose it will sort itself out one way or the other, and gathering under awnings is just fine too.

Our cell phones say they have a signal (on Roam) but they don't always work well -- static issues.  For Internet, I'm using a Sprint air card which is also on Roam at this location.  Slow, and not good for opening or sending attachments, but it works.  Not sure what the roaming charges will be but we're not looking forward to the ultimate billing.

As Kyle has stated many times... the bus group is welcome to use any facilities as long as the airstreamers are not using them at the time.  The people working there are volunteers and know nothing at all about the bus group or any arrangements that have been made by the airstream board.

Cingular phones do not work at the park at all, neither do most cell phones.

Post by: kyle4501 on October 10, 2007, 11:07:42 AM
My mom is the current president of the Local Airstream club. Yes we will be able to use the facilities, we just have to work around the Airstreamer's schedule.

I'm on a heck of a learning curve here, but I'm confident we will be able to reserve the whole park for next year's Non-Rally. You can reserve the whole place, but not individual spaces  ???  their park, their rules. As nice as the park is, their rules must be working.  :)

I'll be there Thurs afternoon for a while & we can get this all sorted out easily then.

Being parked near the road greatly enhances your chances at cell phone reception.

I was also told by Anthony (pres of The Cove Board) that some 50A spaces would be available . . . Seems that info wasn't effectively shared with the staff.

Kirby & Linda, I wish I could have been there when y'all got there to help with the resident confusion . . . .  ;D

Lookin' forward to seeing Ya'

Am I gonna drive all the way over there to be treated like trailer trash?

They ARE Airstream trailers  ;D
The worst space there is still way better than most of the other places I've been.

Most of the Airstreamers & Cove members welcome us & are thrilled that we are coming. I've heard some are coming up for the Airstream rally just to meet us.  8)
Friday night we are sharing a spaghetti dinner with the Airstreamers & 'eating out of the same pot'. Friday night we will get to host a dinner for the Airstreamers.
We have been invited to participate in the auction to benefit The Cove Friday night. So we are more welcome than a few want to think.

There are always a few %&$ in every crowd that make things more confusing & difficult than they need to be.  ::)  Some of them can't get past The Partridge Family.  :P

The thing is the groups having rallys there have been getting smaller & smaller. Some of the %&$ haven't figured out that new groups bringing in bigger rallys is a good thing.

If I understood right, there are ~10 Airstreamers signed up for this weekend. & the other group isn't much bigger.

You should have heard the excitement when I told them I was expecting 15 buses, they thought that was a good sized rally! It looks like we'll have 25+ from what I can tell. That is a good thing  ;D

Between Cliff and me we have the coffee pots (2- 35 cup models) and the Propane french fryers covered.
Ron Elkins Sr. (Ron's Dad) has loaned us his and I came up with another on the coffee pots. Ron, Sr. also tossed in 2#'s of coffee.  What a deal!

So it looks like everything that can be under control is. We'll be there about noon (depending on Cliff) and are looking forward to a fine weekend with great folks. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well.  If I'm treated like nice trailer trash, that'll be an improvement compared to a normal day in my life.
As long as I'm parked next to a nice stored Airstream, no problem...who knows...I may be able to use some Airstream parts....SORRY...Just joking!  Bob, you bringing any tools?  Bluelight specials!  Maybe we can sell some Airstream parts at the bus 'yard sale'?  ;D ;D ;D
Kyle, that "Wagonmaster" job is cool huh??!   I used to promote a bluegrass festival.  Spent a ton of money and time, worried over the weather, what complete bands would actually show, who would drink too much,  how many vehicles get stuck if big rains, how many port-O-jons, ....add infinitum....you sorta got the same tiger by the tail!  Good luck!   I cannot imagine how Jack Conrad stays sane following an Arcadia rally!  Whatta nightmare that's gotta be.   Jack's an automatron...like the ever-ready bunny. Just watching him makes me tired!   Paula's the same way.  Too bad they won't be up for the Non-Rally.
We oughta be in by about 2P tomorrow...NCBob will be just in front of us'ns.  Maybe!  ;)
T's gotta get her exercises all done up before we leave tomorrow.  Can't exercise in the bus.  Exercising in the bus makes the airbags squeak.  Sort odd sounding outside.  ::)  Gotta lube up the suspension.
Reckon Bill and Phyllis made the trip today?  They oughta be there.  Anyone else?
I shoulda gone on over tonight, but, for the safety of the world, I'll go during daylight.

It was nice to see all the buses and to finally meet some of the folks who post here. Wish I had the time to attend more of these get togethers. Everyone was more that willing to show their coaches and I gave lots of tours of the Eagle. Can't wait until I get the chance to attend again.

Cat, feel GREEN!  Very green!  You missed an exceptional NON-Rally!   ;D
And, yes, the adult beverages were cold!  But I left with more than half of what I brought!  Very unusual!  And yep, Ron and his dad arrived on Friday...
We had to be on good behaviour for the Airstreamers...so we can do this thing again!
The campground is nice...very clean.  The only problem I saw was these shiny looking airplane like things sitting around.  People actually lived in them...something called an "Airstream"?   Now if we could lose those things...add a few buses...the campground would be perfect!
Gary has lots of pix...he'll get them up soon.
Anyone that wants to party ought to park next to Cliff and Julie!  ;D
Weather was about perfect, food was the best thanks to a lot of busnuts, but special thanks to
Dave Lang, NCBob, Jack Hart, Cliff, and Kyle...and a lot of others!   Cliff and Kyle did a lot of early morning cooking, and Dave, Jack, and Bob supplied (and cooked) some of the best sausage and chicken!   The attendees didn't really need to bring anything to eat...it was funny to watch...everyone running around with empty plates...running towards the barbeeQ grill or the Palmetto Cove Fine Dining Hall where the food was a'waiting!   The food was great!   A really pleasant weekend!  Busnuts are a friendly lot!  :)
Hope Kyle manages to get the Airstreamers to let us visit again!
BTW, Cat, we missed ya'll!  You would'a enjoyed this'un!  Think of it as T'ville West!
Another thing, Christy is out in MO promoting and hosting the NJT Roundup....bummer...all the NJTs were at Kyle's this weekend!  Well...there were 3.   ;) Breck's 87 '9 is coming along nicely, and it will be a super coach when completed.
There's a lot more...bus ran great, we left about 11A today and arrived home about 2:30P.  Stopped and filled the bus up at the truckstop...I-26/11.  Had fuel for $2.79...here in Charlotte it's $2.95.  It would only hold 75 gallons.  Not bad at all...that's two trips (almost) out of that 75 gallons of fuel!
Cheers, JR and Terri

HOLY COW!, What a NonRally!!!

We came, we saw, we conquered the fears!  8)

Everyone was so impressed with our coaches that they were begging us to come back ANYTIME!

It took me ~3 hours to leave because of all the Airstreamers & Cove members stoping by to thank me for having our gathering there.  ;D
(The Cove President said we were welcome to have as many events there as we wanted to, with the only condition being that the units had to meet RVIA & FMCA specifications. All they could say that meant was that they had to have a bed, shower, sink, toilet & holding tanks. Same as before, so we're all good!)

All I heard was good things. No one seemed to be lacking in fun or good time.  8)

The shared meals were GREAT.

I'm suffering some from CRS, so I can't remember all I need to thank individually, but everyone there knows who you are.  ;D
The breakfast feast of pancakes, sausage, biscuts & gravy started the days off well.  ;D
The smoker grill was the ticket for lunch.
The master grill chefs used it to perfection.
The fried sweet potato fries disappeared as fast as they appeared.
The same for the grilled sausage, Yum, Yum!

The way EVERYONE pitched in was great!
The laid back pace made fun easy to find.
The entertainment was priceless.

We are booked for the first weekend in October 2008. Early arrivals can start showing up Sunday, Sept. 28th. The main dates are Friday, Oct 3rd thru Sunday, Oct 5th.

So, for those that couldn't make this one, you will have another chance.  ;D

The plan will be the same, I'll post a tentative menu & update it as busnuts pick & choose what they want to bring.

This Non Rally was a success because of who was there, NOT the instigator. I really didn't feel I was doing much since everyone was so helpfull.

THANKS Y'ALL

Kyle, I hope you had a great birthday...spent with other nuts. er...busnuts.

Ok, everyone else...lets have some details.  I know we will have Gary's story in picture form when he gets a little rest and has time to get them all uploaded and captioned.  Thank goodness for his hard work and patience at doing this.

It would be great for the attendees to chime in with their comments. Let me know what you liked & what needs work.

If you don't want your input public, send me a note off board. There will be more non rallys at The Cove & I'm wanting to improve so I can 'bump my gums' more (if that is possible  ;D )

Still grinning from the weekend  . . . . . .  ;D

And a fine time was had by all who attended.  The kids were all great and had a fine time. The adults probably ate a bit too much but with all the great food provided...what the heck...who wouldn't.

Gary and Charley Davidson were joined by many of the Nuts and, of course, ol' stalwart JR was therewith the finest bass around. Terry joined in with her mandolin as well.

Music, libation, fantastic food and a spirit of overall volunteering made for another perfect week end.

Man! We gotta do this again, and again, and again.  Look out Jack!

Dang, The rallies over, we are home, it just went too fast.

Our family had a great time.

First, Ye Ole 4905 ran great,  1105 miles round trip.  Only hiccup was my 3-4 shifter fork jumped off the rod once just before we got
there...A little persuasion and we arrived fine....Added a washer on the shifter and she drove home smoother than a babies rear.

The rally was a lot of fun..I was sandwiched between NCBob, Jackie and Charley Davidson(CaptRon) and his Dad...

Ron has a cool little dog (sporty) who climbs out on the drivers panel when Ron has it up, thru the toll window.
Since it was on our door side we saw Sporty a lot....By the way...Ron's Dad could not have been nicer...A true country gentleman..

Bob and Jackie's was the place to get a cold one mid day...Bob had plenty of seats out and we helped fill the 20 gallon can he had.
Anyone who brings a 20 gallon garbage can is ready for a party!  Jackie made up a fresh pot of coffee for the Guy Gang while we BS'd in the cold on Sunday am...If you missed Jackie's Rum cake and sauce...Well there's a reason to live until next year...

We had some really good food, and everyone pitched in to help in one way or another...Many thanks to all the cooks, side dish providers, dessert makers, and those who generously provided various items for our consumption and to use in the preparation.

The part of the rally I always enjoy most is meeting people from the board for the first time.   And this was a smorgasbord for me.  So as not to leave anyone out, I will just say it was my pleasure to meet all of YOU.  You were all better looking and nicer than I thought you would be!  LOL ;D

The music provided buy all the talented artists and Busnuts was just super...JR and his gang of pickers put on a musical treat.  I will say that if you have not heard the "1st time" by Ron, you need too.....Gary showed off his talents on the organ and vocals...OK the re-verb did help...Just kidding Gary...LOL  Wish I could sing!

It really was all about the fellowship and just hanging out with your friends and new found friends.  It seemed sometimes like we ate, talked, ate, talked, music, ate...the days were over and gone before we knew what happened...

I really enjoyed the tours of the coaches and everyone I met.

We did gather a few of the "I am not going to sleep club" hanging out by our coach in the cold evening, we had cold drinks and sat by my burner for my frier to keep us warm, it was just fun.

By the way, if you have kids, ours had a blast, the kids played until they passed out.  We shot/launched 2 liter bottles up with Kyles(aka-Big Kid) launcher, made ice cream, played in the creek, rode bikes, skate boards, shuffle board and the crafty candy spiders by Nancy...

Last but not least, our Host and Wagonmaster(as he was heard too be called) Kyle.  This Guy walked the tight rope of keeping everything going, the politics of dealing with the some of the Coves members with this unknown Busnuts thing(in the end they LOVED us and WANT us back) and just everything that goes on behind the scene to make something like this happen....Before, during and after...

THANKS KYLE   8)   OK enough of resting on your laurels,   Start planning next year....

Cliff

Hello all,

When I started reading the boards 3 years ago and started this bus project, I never imagined I would meet such a wonderful group of people. This was the maiden voyage for my MC-9. I don't know a lot about Rallies, err Non-Rallies, but I don't think we could have picked a better one for our first. I was blown away when at least six people met us as we pulled in, shook my hand and helped me get backed into my site. We would have been sleeping sideways if it hadn't been for the wood blocks Kyle provided to us.

I have never felt so connected so quickly. But I guess everyone there shared a similar love, buses. It was really good to swap stories with people who you knew really appreciated what you were talking about. They had been there and in my case done that much more than I.

The camp ground and facilities were very nice. If you didn't make the walk down to the river you missed something really nice. We walked on the rocks and my daughter's ferret even went for a swim.

I know all of the kids had a great time. My daughter and I made our first bottle rocket out of two two liters bottles. That thing flew at least a hundred yards. After three flights it's nose was a little crushed and Alison didn't want to fly it anymore. She wanted to save it and take it home as a souvenir! Thanks Kyle for providing this activity for the kids. Also a special thanks to the gentleman that was helping us launch the rockets, I know I never got your name right, but you made Alison feel very welcome. I am terrible with names, Kyle what was his name?

The food was oustanding! I brought my Dad down with us, and I have never seen him eat like that at home! He really enjoyed the trip and meeting everyone. Thanks Tom for providing him with early Morning coffee. He really enjoyed talking with you.

I feel like we took a lot more away from this rally than we contributed. But I was consumed with getting the bus on the road for the first time and even getting there. I am really looking forward to contributing more next year. I know it was everyone contributing in some way or another that made this such a wonderful event.

Kyle......ya done good ;D!

There is no way I could individually list all of the great people we met and all the things we enjoyed, but thanks to everyone for making us feel so welcome.

Look forward to meeting everyone again somewhere down the road.

Breck, Cathy, Alison & Shy

That would be Vern Little. (He came with his brother Dulmas (sp?) who was the one who came to the rescue & the pasta cooked faster, excelled at pancake turning, & running the bids up at the benefit auction :)
(If not for Dulmas, we'd probably still be waiting on the pasta due to my oversight in preparation  :o )

I feel like we took a lot more away from this rally than we contributed. But I was consumed with getting the bus on the road for the first time and even getting there.
Don't sell yoursef short. You & yours added much to the fun & fellowship. Your dad is welcome back anytime, anywhere :)

I am really looking forward to contributing more next year.
You've messed up now, you put it in writing so we can hold you to it.  ;D

I know it was everyone contributing in some way or another that made this such a wonderful event.
So right you are!

This was the most fun I had in my bus with my cloths on  ;D. Looking forward to doing it again. My dad has been threatening to go with me somewhere in my bus and hang out with me for a few years, finally made that happen. It was a fun and relaxing time and meeting some of the nicest people. I'm sure some had their reservations about me but hopefully they were put to bed. I got some great ideas there and got to see some magnificent buses there (the flex was a busnut's wet dream). I seen some old friends again and met some new one but it was great to see all of you. I was able to rid my bays of some junkI mean treasures (sinks, windows) and replace that valuable realestate with more junk a profile sander, heat gun, turkey cooker, 2 new batteries from cliff and a flashlight I forgot to return (oops) I'm at Gary Lombard's house now and will probably leave hear Wed. night or Thur. morning headed North, South or west, not sure yet.

P.S. If you own a bike you need to bring it and ride Caesars"s Head, It's a blast.

Thanks everybody for Putting up withentertaining my dad.

Cliff..thanks for the heat!  I owe you some bucks for the propane you used on Sat night's personal chat session!   The "heater" was another excellent idea from "Cliff and family!"   Busnuts are a creative lot!   ;)
I'm expecting to see a 5 foot art deco heat reflecting gizmo on that cooker next spring!   ;D
And your bus is taller than mine.  I concede!  ;)
Regarding the bottle "rockets."  You know, I was wondering how a 2 litre bottle got jammed in my sat dish?   ::)
In addition to Ron's dad (Ron also), there were at least 3 dual generations at the rally...Breck brought his dad, Kyle's dad was there too (the one-armed bandito?  ;))  They were all really friendly and a pleasure to visit with!
Glad to see that our long-distance folk returned home safely!

All bummed out, JR    (bummed because the PARTY's over!)

Charley, I had a great time at the non rally as well. I enjoyed your music friday night and wish I was a good enough banjo player to keep up with you and JR. Music is not my strong point but I keep trying. As to motorcycle rideing I live only 50 miles from there and have seen most of the roads around the Cove. There are some great rides there! Do you have a website or something with your schedule on it? I might catch up with you sometime.

Charley, Dianne got to spend some time with your dad and said it was just a wonderful time.
We like everone else are just in awe of the whole weekend!
Dianne said she was shocked when we got ready to do the chicken the ladies came out of the woodwork and helped out!
Louis (Or Lewis) you are a trooper buddy, came over and was stripping that chicken off the skewers like you had done it before!
Again, the weekend was GREAT!
Dianne called me yesterday and said she made the trip through the woods to our "DEAD" bus and was looking at it and visualizing where "HER" kitcen was going, etc.  To that I owe all you fine folks that gave us the tours.
Dave and Carol, Mike Middaugh had some kind words about you two and your beauty!  Got me thinkin' Starliner...........
Great folks, great food and a great time...let's do it again soon!

Man I feel bad -- knew I would though.
There are some things that we have no control over and that is where i found myself during your Non-Rally.  Your ears should have been burning because I was thinking and asking my wife the ??  :D 'wondering  what Kyle, Gary, JR, NCBob and many others are doing now'.
Gary taking pictures, picking & singing; Jr picking and grinning; NCBob keeping something going.  Good to see my friend Tom Hamrick there and enjoying the non rally as well and i am certain that there are others that were there that we don't know as well.  So glad everything went well.
Looking forward to seeing Gary's pictures - That will be a real treat.

Have been toying with the possibilities of having one in the spring somewhere along the southern part of I-95 here in NC. Just a ways north of Timmonsville.  JR and I have talked about it a little.  Have got some sites to check out and go from there.    Hate we lost that site -- that was an enjoyable event.

Enjoying the journey in NC,

Enuff sugar,  I'M GONNA COMPLAIN! >:(     ( somebody has to be the one in the crowd,  I'll take turn :P)

 >:( I didn't get any Burgers or Spedies Chicken!!!! >:( :'(

Did miss you there Gene but Charles snuck some BBQ in any way.

Missed Dallas and Kat there too.

Anyhoo,

Had great spookgetti.  Would like to throw out a special thanks to all the chefs :-*  wish i could have observed some expert grilling techniques.  Did get some of those tasty sausages.

Great to finally meet Tom H and a whole slew of new friends.

The Incredible Flexible could have been its own show and charged admission to see. I don't recall it as a Centerfold, MAK?!!

Great to see old friends and wish I could have drank some more of FLBob's brews.

Captain Ron/Charley Davidson looks tuff, but thats just for show and he wasn't doin a show,  his dad was even proud of what a nice fellow he was.

I wish i coulda hung out more and enjoyed getting to see all that I did.

"Kyle for president"  ???

Might as well, since smarts ain't a requirement, and we'd have a nice looking first lady! :)
however he'd have to have his own press conference channel :D ;D

Another nice conversion is Jerry C's 102.  Next to Jerry is a super nice MC8 with an immaculate S50 install.  This is the property of Mr. Nixon.
There were another group of folks behind the front row of buses....I'm sorry but I didn't get back there.   As the pix describe, the weather was drop-dead gorgeous!  Great rally!   ;D
BTW, Gene, I'm going to P-mail Darrell P's email address.  He's wanting to put something together down in your part of the state.  Already set a tentative date of the weekend after Mother's Day.  Works for me!

For those of you who do not know it, click on the little paper clip and open the picture in Windows Picture and Fax viewer. It should pop up up and give you that choice. You can then expand the photo to full screen with the thumb wheel on your mouse. On mine I roll the wheel up to expand the photo.

Well everyone the photos  I took at Kyle's (Non-Bus Rally), from October 12-14, 2007 at Palmetto Cove Campground are now on line at my web site which I will list below.

As you know I did not feel very well during the rally but sure did have a good time between the bad pains I experienced at times.

I want to thank Kyle again and his entire family for making this Palmetto Cove Campsite available for us this past weekend, we all had a blast and look forward to the rallies that will grow in number at this beautiful campground.  Also thanks to all the Air Streamers that shared the campground with us busnuts and shared meals together as well as all the facilities at the campground.  I believe the Airstreamers were impressed with us busnuts and any negativity they felt might happen is now all dissipated in to thin air.

While we were mostly at the Palmetto Cove Campground in our coaches and S&S we had a few busnut friends that visited us again and I want to acknowledge them coming to share this weekend with us.  They were Leroy & Lila Ashe & Anita & John Bishop that also entertained us with their friend, (Banjo Picker- Greg Troilinger) and their Son (Fiddle Player - Drew Bishop).

The only problem I feel I did do myself was not get the names of Mike & Carol Heron's family pet names to publish with their photos.  I guess if this is the only mistake I made after all this work I did pretty good, but we were pleased to have the presence of Mike & Carol at our Bus Rally this weekend and hope they attend more of them that Kyle arranges.

Here is the web site to visit for the photo's.  There is 11 (NEW) albums to view on my web site, the names of the attendees at Kyle's rally will be on the top of each album if you are looking for you particular photo's for friends to also view. There is about 30 photos + / - a few to make down loading easier.  If there is any mistakes, please give me a day to rest up and I will then fix them.

go to:
http://community.webshots.com/user/converter101

Oh, by the way, if you know of anyone in our busnut family that does not frequent our MAK board and only the BNO board please pass on to them that the photos of our rally this past weekend is now ready for viewing on my web site posted above.  Unfortunately I do not post on the BNO board anymore and have no idea how long it will be before I do.  Thanks ahead of time.

Now I am done and quit for the night.  Hope you enjoy our Rally Photo's, we had a blast and wish you all could attend.

Gary

Tom Hamrick

Consider them "transplanted!"   Ummmm...I'll need the front bumper, headlights, and turn signals too!   :D
Thanks for the compliment Tom...my bus has "curb appeal"...as long as you view if from the curb...it's OK...get much closer and  :P    It's a "quick and dirty" conversion that has worked out well for what we use it for....Bluegrass festivals.
I believe Jack Hart is not too far from you?  After hearing Jack's wife describe their bus, I'd like to drive up there and see it in person....I don't recall seeing a nice Scenic Cruiser in person...never even been close to one as I recall?   So long as rush hour is avoided, Hickory isn't but an hour and a few minutes from us.
Every time we need some piece of furniture, we're Hickory bound!   ;)

Thanks Dallas, I'll check out that Prevost, but I sure don't need a junker Prevost sitting out here...Unless its a nice XL LeMirage...??  There was a set of Prevost tail lights for sale at Arcadia last year, but there ain't no way the tall box would graft onto an MCI.  The radiator access doors are too low.  Eagle lights may be a possibility since they are individual lights.
May be in need of a junked MC9 for parts one day...so far I've been very lucky with parts failing.  Subject to change at any time!  :o
I would really like to smooth side this thing....just not sure it's really worth the effort.  Decisions decisions! b Until I find a way to repair the windshield leaks, nothing's going to happen.   I may pull the windshields soon and see why they leak.   If the problem is visible. ???

Hi Kyle,  I'm here to HiJack your thread.  ;)
Want to post a heads up for those interested that on May 16 thru 18, 2008,  Gene Lewis and Darrell Passer are hosting a bus rally on the Eastern side of the state.
The rally will be near Fayetteville (just North of Fayettteville) at Wade, NC.  The KOA campground is immediately off I-95 at Wade.
They have blocked 25 adjacent spaces for buses.  The sites appear to be large pull-throughs.   There are more sites with 30A and 50A, but they are not blocked for us...they are back-in, and would be available on first come basis.
Incomplete coaches would not be an issue as this CG offers tent camping and bath facilities.
Here's some data for reservations.   I'll post a proper item on the board, but wanted to get to all the folk that were at Kyle's rally and the ex-T'ville rally.
For those that don't know Gene, he was the most excellent BarbeeQ chef at the last T'ville Rally...and Dave Lang was Big Chief chef for the first T'ville...MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!  And Dave don't live far from this'n  either!    ;D
The format will be similar to Kyle's successful Non-Bus Rally.

The campground has a good website: http://www.koa.com/where/nc/33123/

Wow, how time flies!
The 2016 October Non-Rally at Palmetto Cove will be the 10th !

Gonna have to put a bit of thought into the next one. Would be nice to make it special.

Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Just 5 weeks until the 2016 Non Rally at Palmetto Cove on October 7th through the 9th.

This thread brings back memories !

Some of the guys are no longer posting, But, thankfully, many still are. I am looking forward to this 10th one.

When I hosted the first one, I sure wasn't thinking 10 years would have gone by so quickly!
