Title: 2008 Non-Rally at The Cove (first weekend in October)
Post by: kyle4501 on July 09, 2008, 09:33:59 AM
The October (3rd - 5th) 2008 Non-Rally in the mountains of South Carolina at Palmetto Cove.

http://www.palmettocove.com/

I have reserved space at the park from September 29th thru October 5th.

Since I have to work, I’m planning on being there Friday afternoon, but early arrivals are fine.  ;D

No reservations required (because they do not take them!)
$20(tax included) per night full hookups. (30Amp, water & sewer)
You must be fully self contained (shower, toilet, & kitchen) per state health department rules since there are no bath houses there.

Last year, we parked close to the road & it worked out well. There is a nice area close to road on the far right (as you enter the park) that worked well for a gathering spot & we can set up some canopies there.

There is no rally fee.  :o ;D  8)  There will be a donation pot for those who wish to help offset the cost of the meals.

The Non-Schedule:
(subject to change, so stay tuned  ;D )

I’m going to try to have something (maybe baked spaghetti or lasagne ? ? ) for Friday night dinner & keep it warm for the late arrivals.

For Saturday night, I’ll bring the pulled BBQ & we can have a “pot luck” meal.

For lunch, I was thinking burgers & such & grilling on a large charcoal grill.

For breakfast – you’re on your own!

Please post to share ideas, opinions, suggestions & if you can make it. If I can get an idea of how many are attending, I will know how much BBQ & such to bring.

Anyone have a canopy to bring & share?

Those with musical talents are encouraged to share.  8)

THANKS

Kyle not trying to start a bashing or a buncha quibbling, but I find it sort of contradicting on the parts I highlighted! LOL! Good luck and have a great time! LOL! ;D  BK  ;D

Why not? Bashing & quibbling get higher ratings!  ;D  8)  ::)

Sorry for the confusion, to clarify, this is a RALLY PARK & while you can't reserve an individual camping spot, you can reserve space for a rally, & by so doing, we will get to have exclusive use of the shelter one night & the hall the other night.  ;D

As for the canopy size needed, I don't know  :o , but I think we can use almost any size, although a couple of 20' x 40' might be a bit much to ask for tho.  ;D

Well, I ain't Kyle, but there were quite a few kids there last October.  Gary just didn't take their  pics... ;)
Just let'em go out and play with the other wannabee adults.    If your kids actually go outside and play...there will other children there with other campers and busnuts at the park.  Bring their bicycles.  I don't believe children on motorized toys would be especially welcomed by the park.
When I was just a little chitlin...the mountains wasn't my favorite destination...gimmie the beach!   Now that I'm a curmudgeon geezer, I love the mountains!
There's a really cool rapids flowing at the back of the park...kids love that.  See the rapids (and other CG info) at:  http://www.palmettocove.com/    Their web site may help with your questions.
There were a lot of pets there too!  Gary took their pics....Breck's children even had a ferret thingy on a leash.  That was interesting.    ;D
You're at the edge of the mountains...only 20 miles from Brevard.  There are a lot of things to do if you want to drive around a little.  We're going to run out for a few mid-day Saturday.  I'm gonna go find some bluegrass pickers for Sat evening!  Yee haw!  :D
See ya there, JR

What age are your kids? My kids are 11 & 14. They will be there & hoping to have others to play with.  ;D

They didn't get bored last year. There is a river to play in & woods to stomp in & a nice area to ride bikes - they just have to remember to keep it slow so as to not run anyone over.  :o  (& mine must have a helmet to ride)

Maybe someone has a craft or activity to share with the kids?

Dallas and I are hoping things work out for us to make it for this one.

Carolinaboy, your kids will love Kyles kids. They are really neat and I think they are actually adults in kids bodies.  If Kyles nieces get to go they are younger and super sweet.  This is also a place where the kids can have fun without having to have someone guarding them like at some campgrounds.

Hope to get to see you there!

GREAT! Thanks for the offer! Pulled pork will be awesome!
I don't know how much we need. I try to over plan so we don't run out during the meal.  :o
The leftovers are sure good Sunday for lunch.  8)

I'm thinking at least 50 .  .  .  .
We can work out all the details & can get a better idea early September of who all is going to be there.  ;D

Sorry Charlie, but you ain't gonna pin that on me. You were there when I reserved the park & you didn't say anything until now?  :o  Are you always this difficult to work with?  ;D
Looks like free talent is getting harder & harder to find.  ;D  ::)

Besides, all I did was book the only week that was open at the cove.

And another thing, Just what is so important you can't stop by?
I was hoping for an encore of "my first time". . . . .  8)

Looks like Gary & JR won't have to worry about you stealing the spotlight . . .  ;D

I could well be wrong, but doesn't  EdNJ have Sporty now?...tell EdNJ to bring Sporty down for a visit with Ciff's 'n Julie's 'slammed' (lowered and stretched) pup.   ;D
'Course, those little old ladies might be looking for Charlie....naaaaaaa.. ;)

Kyle, what sort of unmet 'needs' are there?   I'll be glad to contribute stuff, or bucks...advise O' Great Wagonmaster!  ;D
We're planning on making a little music on Saturday afternoon...same musicians as last year.  We ain't improved much.  ;)
Anyone that picks a little bluegrass, or any other style music, is quite welcome to join the orchestrated 'grass music.   ;)
When is Gary and Linda coming up?
Kyle, any chance that we could use the building if the weather turns sucky?   I'm hoping for great weather, but, we'll see takes what we gets.
Gary, do you remember the electric guitar player at Jerry C's FMCA spring fling?  He needs a special invite.
Guy was a super guitar player!   I believe he lives in upstate Ga?  I cannot remember his name...senile dementia is hell.  :'(
Alas, I must now go attend to my broken helicopter....crashed that sucker again!   Good thing I'm not a commercial pilot.  Real good thing.  :o

JR I'm in Orlando's great Ft. Wilderness RV Park!
Great place for families with kids or grandkids but for a weekend get a way for two, its not high on my list of places to go.
I guess I'm just spoiled being around REAL busnuts that have more in common at rallies and such! I can't wait for the flywheelers rally. I'll feel more like home although away from home if you know what I mean! Here it either cost you much extra to do something or your not allowed to be where you went such as the beach after dark or the road to the stables or the walking path! Well we WERE in our golf carts and were told we couldn't leave the park unless we were walking or in a shuttle! I mean you can only run up and down the different loops they have here so many times before you realize its old stuff!
Some people REALLY enjoy it but to be honest, its not for me! One day was plenty! Even the pools were way overcrowded and never used them! You would think disney would be far better than what I've seen especially at 60 bucks a night for camping in a swamp!
Oh well, made the best of it and home tomorrow!
Now if Susan could only get off work in October! :)

Ace

I've got a table.  About a 5' octagonal thingy.  I'll bring it.
The only awning I have is attached to the side of the bus....?  Welcome to that!  ;)

See you soon!  JR

BTW Ace....be a 'man'...Susan CAN get off work.  You just strongly suggest that she'll take off that week...?   ;D
Isn't that how it works in other families?  Doesn't work for me at all..but it may for you!
Bring your instruments!  I know ya'll been going to some BG festivals...should about be 'pro' fiddle and mando!
We did a few days at Fort Wilderness once.  I enjoyed what we did.   They had adult beverages almost everywhere we went evenings...Pleasure Island and the Barn Dinner Theatre that was located next to the camground.  The dinner theater set buckets of beer and chicken on the tables....now how cool is that!    As you describe, to move around in the park we had to take a shuttle.  Often we were the only people on the bus.   Had to watch that when trying to return from Pleasure Island late.
We rode most of the rides in the DisWorld too...just two of us.   We had been down in Key West diving and the weather turned off nasty for days.. We decamped Key West and headed north...ended up at Disney.   Weather was bad in Orlando too...but that made access to the rides easy.
That was the second time weather ran us out of Key West.   I reckon around 1990 an ice storm closed most of the interstate in and north of Jax.  We just got thru Jax and they closed it.   I drove about half way to North Carolina before stopping.  Spent the night camping in a rest stop.  No problems...just dangerous on the roads at night.  Glad the LP tanks were full!

Kyle,

We are planning on being there. I think Dad will want to come back also. He had a great time last year. I will have two, possibly three kids with me. I know Alison had a "blast" with the bottle rockets last year. She still has her record setting rocket hanging in her room. Hope you will bring the rocket rig again. I could operate that for the kids if need be. And of course we will have Shy, the ferret, on a leash again.

Really had a great time last year, met great folks and made good Friends. Wonder if Cliff has anymore Solo bus conversion stories he wants to share? Having been there and done that I could really relate.

Looking forward to seeing you all again,

Breck

We did not make the fall rally last year (we were at the first one).  I would like to see Shy, we had 5 ferrets several years ago (3 sable, 1 albino, and 1 butterscotch).  The are neat pets and we could watch them play for hours.  Have you ever set up a childs play pool for yours?  We would tilt the pool so one end had water and other end was dry (but not for long when thery were playing in the water.  Jack

Breck

Anna will be happy to know y'all will be there!

I'll make another launcher, I got talked out of the last one. ::) but it was for a good cause  ;D

So, bring your empty 2 liter drink bottles so the kids (& Breck) will have something to do.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Kyle I can call em too!

Swing your partner round and round, pick her up and throw her down!
Dosey doe ya'll,
Its high time we had a ball...now pick her up off that floor and swing your partner right out the door!

See nothing to it! ;)

And Relay the Ducey too!
I wish I could be there but I think we have to pass this time.
Yellow rocks to all!

This is looking like a FUN WEEKEND!   What with Breck and the ferret, Jack and Paula, ..... ;D
Kyle, get the caller to bring whatever canned music he uses....Gary's sound system (??) will work for the caller and sound reinforcement.
I don't know Bo from square dance, but it sounds like fun!
What with our local 'rugged individualism,' we do (did?) the clogging thing.  That's a sorta 'one couple' square dance?  ::)
Could set that show up in the shelter on Friday night and invite the whole campground....?  There are probably a good many square dancers among the Airstream campers.
All excited!  JR  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Grills & charcoal - Hey NewbeeMC9, Are you bringing your big grill?

I hope to be bringing it, and expect to be there,  I have a 10"x10" pop up canopy too. and a couple 2"x6" tables we keep on the bus.

I wanna follow JR around and listen to his lies since I'm running out of my own :o

I even went and filled the bus up for $3.79/ gallon at the new palm station around the corner.  Never thought that would be a good deal?  evrything is relative ay?

Jack,

You are right, the ferret is a great pet. She is litter box trained and has free run of the house. She loves to hide stuff. We don't really mind because she always puts everything in the same places. When the insoles for my work shoes are missing I always know to look under the dresser. We will try the pool idea, sounds like fun. Shy enjoyed swimming in the creek behind the campground last year.

I think it's great of you guys to go so far out of the way as to provide furniture to make a fellow bus nut's pet feel at home. Thanks guys.

Kyle,

Don't go to too much trouble for another launcher. There will be plenty to do.

If you all remember last year's Non-Rally at the Cove was our maiden voyage. We put over three thousand miles on the bus this summer. It ran great and has really gained my confidence. It will be a work in progress for several more years but we have really enjoyed using her this summer. This will probably be our last trip for the year and don't know of a better place to wrap up the summer.

See ya soon,

Breck

We had to "Ferret Proof" our bus. It is amazing how small a hole they can get through. Our butterscotch would take the kitchen sink drain stopper and put it on the floor in front of the pantry. I would put it back in the sink and she would immediately put it back on the floor in front of the pantry. We made the space under one side of the dinette ther "home" (this was a nice place for their litter pan also).  Jack

Get Susan's fiddle tuned up!  Kyle's got a caller for Sat night...and we'll have some more pickers Sat afternoon and evening.
We are planning on doing Arcadia...unless fuel spikes again.. :o  T is off for sure this year.  And, so far, the bus is running well.
And, assuming no global cooling and glaciers...and stuff like that.   ;)
BTW, South Carolina has some of the least expensive diesel in the US.   Try to arrive near empty!
When leaving Palmetto last October, I topped off the bus.  Saved more than a dollar a gallon this summer.  Filled up the bus with $4.80 diesel this summer...bumMER!  >:(
What's up with Cliff and Julie?  Cliff is now a famous banjo picker!  Cliff??

Yep.  Getting close!
Herb Spurlock stopped by the store today...he indicated that he and Gene Lewis will be arriving on Wednesday.
Gene's going to need a little assistance with his freshwater plumbing.   I'll bring the PEX 1/2" ring squeezer.   Not sure what material Gene plans to use for repair??
Where's Palmetto Cove's  nearest plumbing supply or Lowes..or HD?
I'll be over on Thursday...
See ya, JR

I know the lowes store has the pex fittings & squeeze rings.

Yeah, IF he brings the Kronies!   ;D  Otherwise Bob's relegated to the 'worker' identity.  Bob will fit very nicely inside Gene's bay... >:(
He works pretty good.
Sometimes I need a little direction....been known to get the can upside-down...can't open'em like that!  ;)   Senility is hell.   ;D
Herb was by and sez that Gene's coming over on Wed.
I'll try to see what Gene has in mind.  With the distance to most plumbing supply houses, I'll suggest that he map out what he want and bring a few supplies.  I'm gonna recommend PEX, but PEX isn't easy to work with in really tight areas.
We could make up a complete system for the utility bay and install it as a unit.   Or use ABS and glue it up.  As long as it's dry, it'll work well.   That appears to be what happened with the initial install.   Maybe water in the system, or the dope wasn't used in suitable dollups.
In any event about half of the connecters in the system could be eliminated and the system still work.
Got the PEX crimpers in the bus.
We were in Brevard last weekend and saw a nice Prevost parked next to a home on the road that goes to the music thingy just outside of Brevard....Probolt street?  or some such.    Ned you oughta know who owns a nice bus like that?
Hi to Wilma!
Jon and Kyle, thanks for the store location...we'll probably make several runs....I've never done such a project without the inevitable 'runs' to the store!
I just had a thought....Jack's going to be there...right?   SEMINAR TIME!  Related to proper plumbing methods!!!  Gene's bringing the project bus!   :D ;D :)
BTW, if anyone needs a Bluegrass fix...we'll be at Denton, NC which offers a good program and ample parking with power and water, the week before Kyle's Non-Rally....come'on over.   Anyone  in the area is welcome to follow me home, plug up to power and water, and rest until the Non-Rally gets going!   I can park maybe.....20 buses out here?   No problemo!  :)
I was talking to Bill Haga tonight and he was asking about "Texas Dude" and Coffee the dog....anyone heard from them recently?  Seems to have disappeared?   ???
See ya'll up on Thursday....JR  8)

Thanks Jon....for reminding me.  Kyle's 'storm' is going to visit us at Denton this weekend...BUMMER!   I pulled the bus out of the barn tonight and parked it up by our home.  Just in case Kyle arrives a little early.  I'm leaving for Denton on Thursday morning...rain's supposed to begin on Thursday morning!  I hope hurricane 'Kyle' has moved on by Oct weekend.   ???
I won't wash the bus....yeah.  Now I feel better.    :P
Getting the bus out is garunteed to make rain.  The farmers oughta be paying me to go camping!
Two years ago, at the Denton Mother's Day weekend it rained 4" in about 3 hours.  T and I were just fine sitting in the bus and wasting time.  No leaks...no problems.   Our two other members of our group had water damage from leaking windows in their S&S.   One of the leakers was a $200K Itasca Meridian.  Kitchen side window leaked.   Major Bummer!  That Itasca has been in the shop more than on the road.  Oh well.  My day's a'coming.  I oughta quit screwing with the bus-gods.
Rain takes the edge off of bluegrass festivals.   At least I'm parking on an all weather site.  We park in the Vendor area.  This is good.  The Vendor wall isn't available during the Old Time Thresher's Reunion, but 3 of us have it reserved for all the bluegrass shows.
We're looking forward to Palmetto Cove weekend!
I spoke with Francis Lewis and Herb Spurlock and they indicated they'll be over on Wednesday.
Anyone heard from Cliff or NCBob?  The Lang's?   You get Dave and Gene together and there's going to be some GOOD eats!
That reminds me, I'm bringing a 5' octagonal table...I don't have any awnings other than what's attached to the bus.
Are any foodstuffs--or any other items needed?
Glad we use diesel fuel....the bus has a full tank of fuel....but around here, gasoline is getting more and more scarce??   Better than half of our gasoline suppliers are bagged.  When are the refiners going back to work?  Doesn't seem to be much news on this subject?!

See ya'll Thursday!   JR   ;D

Cliff, sorry to hear y'all ain't gonna make it up...but, we enjoyed that last years party!
Just in case anyone coming up this way watches the news and notes that fuel is in very short supply, that seems to be gasoline only.
Diesel fuel is available everywhere.  Just gasoline that is short.  And it is very short.
The gasoline shortage is supposed to start abating tomorrow.  Gasoline is flowing again...not at capacity, but it's going to catch up fast once it hits the market.   A lot of guys are probably hoarding 55 gallon drums of gas in their backyard.
Diesel is running about $4.28 here in Charlotte.
Probably a good bit less in South Carolina.   South Carolina has much better governance than North Carolina.  North Carolina's body politik is a sorry lot.
We are seriously considering a move to just across the SC border.  May do that once the real estate market stabilizes.
Alas, I complain.  That's what geezers do you know.   ;)
That reminds me....NCBob!...you coming to Kyle's rally?   ;D

I was just there last week for the Harley Fall Rally in the Valley. Trailered the Harley behind the Eagle. That Museum is great if you are into old harleys. The man has kept everything (parts and all) he ever owned.

THe old saying he who dies with the most toys wins, he is running right up front.

I am pretty sure you will see me and the Eagle ( and Harley ) at the cove. Told Claudette tonight to go tell her boss Monday she had to go out of town unexpectly Thursday.

This'll be easy for me...I like everything!
Man...I just finished washing the bus.  We spent essentially the whole half week stuck in the bus.  That's not so bad...but it rained from about an hour after we arrived until Saturday afternoon.   Never put out the awning, didn't play a bit of music, and never put out even a chair.   NASTY weather.
Oh well.  You win some and you lose some.
The music was good, and it was under a large covered area.  So that went pretty good.
I scrounged up some scrap lumber and made a 'boardwalk' to the bus so we didn't have to walk thru the wet grass and mud.
The festival had the feel of a private showing.   Between the weather and the gasoline shortage, they probably had 10% of the usual crowed.   Someone lost their butts on this event.  Last year was about as bad.
Looks like the Non-Rally is going to be cool, but nice othewise.  Similar to last October.    It got right cool up there last year, but the weather was great during the day.  I was sorta counting on Cliff to bring that home-grown outdoor fireplace....?!  ::)
See ya'll on Thursday!
Ed, y'all bringing that little pup with you?   ;)
Cheers, JR   8)

Great!  Isn't he the minpin digger dog?  Point to a place on the ground and he excavates?   ;)
Does he like ferrets?   ::)
We had the pleasure of Sporty last year.  Very nice little dog.   Ron gave the dog to EdNJ...bummer.  I about stole Sporty!
Oh well.  Reckon I'll have to pay for one soon!  T wants a dog.
She wants a Japanese Chin.   NOT a manly sort of a dog.
See ya'll soon.  JR

JR you should compromise with her and get a Shar pei very cool & cute too! Super good dogs great temperament and lots of fun too! Also I'm quite sure you won't have the problem I had when I had mine yrs ago!
Seems a very smart and ambitious 2 something yr old had been watching mommy iron clothes and learned that the iron made the wrinkles go away!
Well I guarantee you that "Wrinkles" the dog NEVER forgot that incident, and never ever trusted that little girl when she was near him alone again!
By the way she wasn't successful in removing his wrinkles, but he did have a permanent Iron shaped area where the hair stayed flat! LOL Poor IL' "Wrinkles" I still feel bad for him everytime I remember that! ;D  BK  ;D

I dunno about a 'pre-wrinkled' dog... ;D   Shar Pei are pretty good sized dogs aren't they?   Terri wants a little dog.  I'm neutral on the size.  I've got a lab and a mutt.  The mutt is probably the most unfriendly dog I've ever had.  He's plenty friendly to us, but not to anyone else.  The lab like everything and everyone.   T wants a little lap dog.
Thanks anyway BK!  I'll pass the suggestion on to the boss.   ;)
Ed's minpin, and Ned and Wilma's pups are 'right-sized' for riding in a bus.

JR the Shar Pei are usually around 40-50 lbs not really what I call a big dog, but not really a lilltle dog either! Most little bity ankle bitters tend to be annoying to me as most not all (I have met some great bus nut with some great little well behaved dogs such as Gary & Linda's,  Ned & Wilma's, Mike & Jay's, & of course the famous "SPORTY") tend to BARK anytime they are awake! I love dogs period, but some little yip yaps tend to get on this big ol lazy dogs nerves! Now if ya want a big dog then think Sheppard (German or Old English Sheep) or St. Bernard, Lab, Newflound, Great Dane, etc! I know I'm ramblin' but to me a medium sized dog like a Shar Pei or simular would make a good traveling dog! Besides if ya traain a medium to large dog right you can tell people it's a service dog and take it anywhere! Try that with a tiny dog that you have to carry! LOL! ;D  BK  ;D

It seems our plans that we made to make the trip to the Cove have been changed which was not our choice so it looks like we will NOT be attending with or without our bus as we originally planned and I'm sure this will please the "one" person in this little clique that was kind enough to send me the email!

Whoever it was/is , you got your wish! I hope this brings a smile to your face. Lord knows you must live every day without one! Just so you know, I tossed it around for a few days and really thought about attending anyway, JUST to make YOUR day, but thought better of it. I figure if your low enough to send the message, then I'm big enough to stay away!

Our next outing will be at Fly Wheelers Park with real bussin friends!

Ya'll have a great time and hope the weather is good!   ;)

I think most here know ace & i don't always agree (well actually, never intentionally  ;) ) & aren't on either's Christmas card list.  :o  ::)

But, with the economy the way it is, do we really need to wish misfortune on others?

So, no private nastygrams. (Either keep it to your self, or post it so we can all enjoy the bickering.   :P  8) )
What good is a fight anyway, if there is no audience?  ;D

(I know I'm no saint & I sometimes yeild to temptation, but I'm trying to do better - some days it even shows  8) )

Debates & discussions don't need to degread to personal attacks, do they?

We don't have to like someone to show a little decency or respect, do we? After all, if they are here, we already have something in common, lets focus on that & over look the differences that are sometimes annoying.

Lets save the hostility for the politicians robbing us blind.  ;D ;D ;D

Living well is the best revenge.

Revenge is a dish that is best served cold.
For me, that dish usually ends up as forgiveness & if you have ever truly forgiven someone, you know how good it is to be free of the burden.

BTW, forgive & forget are two different things. (I forgave the crook that conned me on a bus deal, but I ain't gonna forget that lesson! )

I've stewed over this all day having received a message from Ace and what was done chewing on my gut. There's no question that we, some of us, can have differences of opinion from time to time but this is beyond the pale.

To my friends Ace and Susan, I plead, please come to Palmetto Cove for the weekend. Your presence will help make a great week-end even better! And to Ace personally, be the man I know you to be and shrug this foolishness off as a duck would water off its' back. If there is one person in our community who has an ax to grind with you....let him step NOW. Or skulk off in the shadows like the coward I believe him to be.

We don't need, nor will I tolerate, people like this. I may not be the 'Queen of the May' but you don't really wish to have me for an adversary.

On behalf of Kyle, with whom I just spoke, I again extend an invitation to Ace, Susan & Bud to join us at Palmetto Cove for this coming week end. And to the individual in question I extend to you and invitation for a watermelon suppository which I will be happy to install!

BK, I got conned by a guy that claimed to be "the last Marlboro man" (he wasn't, I checked, but that was after the fact . . . ). He presented the bus as his own. The storage place acknowledged him as the bus' owner. He claimed to have misplaced the paperwork & . . . . . A friend checked out the bus & it started right up with no smoke, built air quickly & held air, etc. . . . . I believed him & sent him the $$. While we were preparing the bus for the ~800 mile trip home, a fellow stopped by & after some discussions, he left & returned with the title signed over to him. "Marlboro man's" name wasn't ever on the title. In for a penny, in for a pound, so I paid the legal owner his price (I wish I had met him sooner as his price was much lower!) & drove it home.

I looked in to what my options were & found the legal system does a damn fine job of protecting crooks & screwing fools who get scammed. Took a while, but I've moved past it. Since it cost more than I'd planned, there isn't $$ to work on it yet . . . . . .

Some days, it's 1 step forward, 3 steps backward, so I'm waiting for the tide to turn before moving  ;D

I've had way too many phone calls about this. I can't fathom who would send something without standing behind it.

Short of a confession, who can ace send this 'email' to for identification of the IP address so the innocent can be cleared of suspicion?

Kyle I don't have the email any longer. After having pc problems, I installed a new spam control and it deletes the emails after I process he mail.

I would just let it die! The person knows who it is and to expose him publicly would only make things worse between us!

Like I said, ever since my dad passed away, I have taken life just a little more serious about grudges! Our time here is short and there's no way I am going to keep kindling a fire just to satisfy someone that has obviously many issues!

If he wants to send me another email, my box is open! If not, then he got the message of what people think of his actions!

Thanks everyone... but kind of sorry I brought this public! It's surely not bus related and I have been trying real hard to abide by the rules!

You guys and gals at the cove have a great time. We'll catch you another day, maybe next year if not before down here somewhere!

Now Bob,
Is that the way to welcome busnuts to a gathering? What kind of example is that anyway?

Besides, we don't need you getting a double hernia on top of everything else.

Let's strive for the high road & not fall to the level of this isolated incident.
Let's not allow this to divide us or cause sides to be taken. Allegations can sometimes cause more harm than the act.
Let's use this to think about how our actions impact others & maybe modify our own behaviour if needed.

To those who think they know who sent it, be careful in your rush to judgement, you don't have all the facts.
To convict someone with circumstantial evidence is not prudent.
A few thoughts come to mind;
Innocent until proven guilty.
Ignorance is bliss.

Personally, I'd rather not know who sent it. That'd be too much baggage to carry.

Life is too short to allow someone you don't respect or like to have influence on your personal esteem. Don't give others that power.
Don't allow yourself to be a victim.

Peace out,
I've got a non rally to non prepare for.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Gene's dealing some health issues that are causing him grief.   Nothing life threatening or such...but it's interfering with driving the bus.
I suggested letting Francis drive...that suggestion wasn't a starter.
I'M GONNA MISS GENE'S BBQ!!!!!!  ???     I'll miss Gene and Francis too...but, Gene cooks goood BBQ!  :)

we've had a change of plans, so we will be free Friday afternoon, Sat. & Sunday.  It sounds like it would be a lot of fun to get together and enjoy a little music , will it be ok to bring my guitar?  PLease let  me know.  Thanks.

Gate is open & no one will be turned away (as long as you have a self contained rig - see first post concerning park rules . . . .)

Look forward to seeing you!

Bring your guitar, I'm sure you will be asked to join in with the others.

Kyle,
Thanks for the reply.  We are fully self-contained, we have a MCI5A. The route we are planning to take from Demorest, GA.  is to take Hwy 123 to
Seneca, SC. then left hwy 130 (Rochester Hwy) rt on 183 to Pickens then hwy 8 to junction 8/11 then left on Table Rock Road. Is this a good route, not to mountainous?  I like the back roads.  Also, is there anything special we
need to bring? Thanks.

When I went to the Timmonsville rally, Cat & Dallas made it easy for all to feel welcome & participate. I did a poor job of planning & arrived flat footed & ill prepared. Cat said that was OK & there were ways to help other than bringing food. I've tried to do the same, all are welcome & are expected to contribute only in a way they are happy with. We all have different abilities & the fellowship is the most important thing. With a crowd this great, everything else will take care of itself!  8)  ;D

That said, suggested things to bring;
- outdoor chair (some of those tall tales are a lot of work to spin & weave.)
- sides for the potluck meals.
- tableware - plates, forks, cups, etc.
(There will be a limited supply of disposable plates for those who need it . . . .)

(there will be a donation pot to help out with the cost of the BBQ & hamburger stuff for those who wish to help in that way)

Friday night - baked spaghetti & salad (served until 10 pm for the late arrivals)

Saturday -
lunch - grilled hamburgers
Dinner - BBQ (thanks to ED!)

Sunday - Leftovers   ;D 8)

I took the trailer over last night & was able to visit a little before I had to run off for that dirtiest of 4 letter words - WORK.

The weather is GREAT & the earlier clouds cast with an unsubstantiated accusation have cleared & a good time is being had by all. ;D  8)  ;D  8)  ;D

Anytime 2 or more busnuts are together, a good time will be found.

Sad, sad news from The Cove.

The 2008 Non-Rally is officially over.  :'(

In spite of my efforts, a GREAT time was had by ALL in attendance! (& even a few who didn't make it.  :o)

The weather was as good as it gets & the company was even better!
Met some new friends & added faces to names (mostly good,  ;) )
Those LP fire pits were great.
The musical entertainment was absolutely perfect thanks to JR & Gary.
The BBQ was also perfect, THANK YOU ED & ANN   :-*(for Ann, sorry Ed, you'll have to settle for a handshake)  ;D  8)
Thanks to my Mom for helping so much with the meals & keeping them close to the schedule.
Thanks Jon for the grill & making those awesome hamburgers!

But the best thanks goes to all who attended & made everything worth while.
I really didn't have to do much since everyone was so great about helping.

Stay tuned for details of the 2009 Non-Rally at The Cove (Oct 4th thru the 10th, 2009) We'll be sharing the facilities with the Airstreamers.

ME TOO!  Had a great time...once that %%$^&* exploded tire thingy was resolved.   :(
I have now proven that my narrow a$$ can change an inner dual without killing something.  ;D
Now's a good time to replace 6 tires....where to start?!   :o
No problems at all on the return trip!   I drove a little slower...now I'm scared of the tires.
Anyone need some 315/80R-22.5 takeoffs?   Got five that look really good!
Thanks to Jack and Jim for their assistance in getting my replaced tire up to pressure.  My spare had 86 lbs of air...I had an air line...it just wouldn't supply air...bummer.  MCI has a lot of check valves in the air system!  ???   Oh well.  That'll be an easy fix.  When the spare goes back into the compartment, it'll have the valve stem forward so that it is easily serviceable.
Really enjoyed the Non-Rally!  The weather was perfect!  Plenty of good feed!  Kyle's Mom kept him under control!   ;D ;)
LOTS of good conversation!   Really nice bunch of busnuts!  :)
Thanks to Gary L for organizing the 'setting of the awnings' and supplying heat Saturday night!  It did get a little cool outside in the evenings...sitting under an awning with a fireplace was nice.
Now I've got all this 'plumbers crack' that I had to bring back.  Gene wasn't able to make the trip sooooo we got all these plumbing things....actually, Gene says he's fixed the leaks.
We're planning for Arcadia....and new tires.
I semi-winterized the bus after Terri got it cleaned up.  Seems to take her a long time to wash one lousy bus.   Whatever, as long as it gets done!  ::)
T enjoyed herself too...I can tell.  I got out my big picture of an MCi "E" model that I carry around here...like a Christmas wish-book.   Usually that picture gets maybe a cross look...not today...she says 'lemmie see that'...Cool!  We're moving in the right direction.  Not very fast, but...she likes the stairwell and dash!   Who knows, I may skip the "D" model!   ;)::)
Now I'm just gonna wait for "O" to get me some health insurance!  Retirement is going to be sooo great!
Kyle, put me down for next year!

Cheers, JR and Terri

Thanks all for making this a pleasureable gathering it takes some effort for me to actually speak instead of type you-all :D,  It was great to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones and familys somebody brought the "meanest women in the south".  Plenty of interesting buses.  Extremely sharp eagle, some MCi's, one with a series 50, but mostly GMC's(however no scenicruisers :D), there was a silversides with a DDEC 6 92 in it(i think 92)

I believe i ate more than i brought :o but there seemed to be plenty.  Big thanks to the bringer of the sliced tomatoes,  I had a nice big delicously messy mater burger :)

Would like to especially thank the Brandts for "Bringin' it on!"

Paula & I also want to thank everyone involved in this rally.  I won't mention names, because I do not want to forget anyone. So, I will just say "Great Food, Great Weather, Great Friends, and a GREAT TIME"!  Jack

That was an inline 6-71 DDEC.  Yes, it was a DDEC controlled L6-71  Jack

Gene did an amazing job with the install. Everything looked simple - untill you started looking at all the small details - WOW, the attention to detail is AMAZING! Gene is a very talented guy with great ideas! Was really great to meet them!

Claudette and me (and Rebel ) had a great time , finally got to put some new faces with names. But I'll need to see everyone a couple of times to remember all that info. Didn't leave until Monday, and lost the tranny cooler on the way home. If it wasn't for Rebel begging me to stop so he could Pee I wouldn't have seen tranny oil on the jeep. I had to do a little --gger rigging
( hope that is politically correct) to bypass it so I could get it home.

Now to find a new one before Hoboken Rally. Any know of a source ?

Thanks Kyle rally was great will definately be there next time.

It's OK to say it,

Tigger rigging is always better than dealing with Poo.  .  .  .  ;)

Gary has done it again! He compiled a video of the non rally pictures & used JR & friend's pickin for the background music.

Very good video of the NON rally.

I sent Gary an email expressing those thoughts.

Glad to see everyone had such a good time and the music in the video is top notch!

Love the video!  Probably had to be there, but seems like we drove in, setup...and had to leave.  Man that weekend went by fast!  Bummer!
Gary has a ton of time invested in that video.   Love the music too!.... ::)  Hey...some of us are a little narcissistic!   ;)
Ed Brenner, if you read this, I'm interested to know who did your Eagle conversion?   Your Eagle is really nicely done.
All weekend I was going to ask...??  Alzheimers is hell.   :o
I got alzheimers and depression now...priced new tires today.  WhOA!!  WAS looking at Michelins...NOT...$700 and some change each.  That ain't gonna work.  Firestone or Conti for about $500 each.  That may be doable.  I've got Firestones now.  They've been pretty good. Probably what I'll install.
Reckon I'll start a tire 'thread'??   ;)
JR

Thanks to Kyle and the people that worked so hard to make this non-rally happen.  I think this is the best time we have ever had in the bus.  Patsy and I enjoyed looking at all the buses; but, it was the guys and gals that made it special.  If you didn't feel welcome here you wouldn't feel welcome anywhere.
Thanks to J R and Gary for the music, Gary I really enjoyed playing  music with you and hopefully we can do it again sometime.  Thanks for posting the pictures they were great.
We really enjoyed the food and appreciate everyone who helped .
This was our first rally but hopefully not our last.

we are home

after 8 states and 11 days we are back in nc. What a way to end a great rally. 4 days with some of the nicest people and great buses, great food, just a great time.

Then an escort to ga by a beautiful 35ft mci.then across alabama, mississippie, louisana, arkanasaw, missouria and tenn. and then back home to nc. The old detroit hummed along fine. Brought a lot of attention every where we went from old truck drivers who heard us pull in. were welcome in ever campgroud from the state parks to the fancy resorts.

The only bad part was trying to get through Chattanoga at 5:00 oclock on friday evening. 2 hours and 15 miles.

Bus conversions are the only way to travel.

Ned and Wilma

ps thanks to kyle for a great rally and Gary for great pictures. and for a great bunch of bus nuts

Uncle Ned, I'm glad you and Wilma made it home safely, and had an enjoyable trip. We really had a good time following Huggy Bear across the hills and hollows going to Ga.   That 4104 has enough power to eat the hills up. I'd get to listening to Huggy and forget to shift gears and start pulling down on the hills.it was still a nice ride. Patsy took some pictures on the rd. will post when I learn how. y'all have a good night  Glen

Glen, if you want to post pix..the best way is to send them to Gary Labombard and let him sort it out.  Gary will post them.  (Sorry Gary, I know you're busy...  ::) )  All Gary needs is some sort of ID of the pix.
Can you load them and email them?  That's what I did last time I wanted some rally pix posted.  He had'em up before I could load just one.  You can also load them onto a CD and mail them to him.
Gary can load them onto his Converter101 website...where about 99% of bus rally pix reside!
Ned, did your daughter follow ya'll thru the trip?  That's a nice outing you and Wilma had!  Write some more describing your trip.... I'm envious....again!
I ain't going nowhere until I git some tars! :D

    Glen

I enjoyed the ride across Ga. with you. Also got to looking at all of that shiny stainless following that i would forget to gain a little speed going down the hill to make it up the other side with loosing speed.

Did you the rember seeing that Million dollar s&s sitting by the road calling on his cell for help. While two 50 year old buses passed right on by.

If you plan on going down to jacks for the rally maybe we can get to gather and go as a pair. I like going down 321 the 301 then 17.  great back roads and little traffic.

Jr   slow down and you would not blow the tires off of the bus. Cruise along and look at the view.

Thanks JR, for the info, when I get a  little time I'll try to sort it out.  My daughter says she can do it but we'll see.  I heard that on the tars, Ineed to replace 4 on the rear they're getting weather cracked. i've got to do that soon.  Uncle Ned, yes I saw that s&s rig on the side of the road.  Looked like he had plenty of money so I'm sure he was okay. Just because it's new doesn't mean it won't break.  I would like to make the trip to Jack's, but, we'll
have to see how things work out.  That would be great to make the trip down together, I like the back roads also.  There's more to see. When it gets a little closer we'll try to get together.   Glen

Put U a copy of the Encyclopedia of Buses in the mail today.  U should have it in a couple or three days.
Thanks
I have found it to be a valuable tool and I can't tell U how many times I refer to it.  U will probably find the same is true with U.

Knew y'all have a great Non Rally-Rally.  Any time Bus-Nuts get together its fun and exciting.  It was my loss that I was unable to make it.  Messed up my author infested knee and had to ride a cane for almost 3 weeks - :'( NO FUN!  :'( Got off the cane a week ago today. ::)   That's wonderful!!! :o
We R in the planning stages for another Bus-Nuts Gathering in May of 2009.
Will keep U posted as the time draws nearer.

Enjoying the journey from NC,
Gene
