It's also interesting that in the late 90's my EFIL was receiving $625from SS... yes it was, he was also geting Part "a" and Part "b".
To make the story even better, he worked for Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky for 13 years, and as a result of his disability from them got $$2992.00/month.
Everytime his check from SS went up, his rent also went up. This usually meant he was exactly even on his section8.
The same apartment building where he lived had the same apartments available for open rent at $348/month. The best part was that those same apartments included cable and the use of the "facilities" (those were the hottub, jacuzzi, weight room and steam room.
When confronting both the apartment building management and the Social Security admin, we were told nothing could be done, it wasn't illegal, don't bother us, "Press One for English", KMA, and best of all.. this isn't really my job, you'll need to contact the PTB for the answer to your question.
Fascinating. If it is accurate (and some reality checks suggest it is), it very effectively validates my gripe with the Social Security Administration's so called cost of living adjustments. In 1973 Mom was getting $300 per month. Based on that calculator, to have the same purchasing power now, she would need to be receiving $1,430 per month now. But instead she gets $604 now. Before, just using my estimations, I took the issue to the SSA to see if there had been some kind of error. They double checked it* and said that it she was getting the correct amount.
* In govt offices, "double checking" means they printed out the account record and simply repeated what it showed. Not much human thinking goes on in those offices.
