I know this is a little early, but you might want to mark your calendars for our fourth annual Texas Bus Roundup.

Dates are September 30th through October 3, 2010. This puts us as the first rally, with the Eagle Rally in Branson and Christy Hicks rally at Carthage following close behind. So if you're in the mood to attend all three, here's your opportunity.

Sonnie Gray has found a new location for us. The owner has set aside 40 sites with more available if we need them You do not need to make reservations, pay upon arrival. Just tell them you are with the Texas Bus Roundup group. Although the cost is a little higher, I'm sure you will agree it is well worth it. It is brand new and has a large enclosed meeting area with a full kitchen, very large pull throughs with full hookups sites available. Check it out here http://www.koa.com/where/ok/36135/

I will be sending out a registration form sometime next year so we can get an idea on a head count for meals. John and Tami Rigby have volunteered to take care of all meals. I guess they felt sorry for me!  Grin

We will have a professional photographer, Wendy Crosby, in charge of taking all of the pictures. She graciously volunteered her services, with a little coaxing from me. Wink Her and her husband attending our rally for the first time this year and they are in the process of looking for their very first bus conversion.

Darrin Bruner and his wife Cynthia have agreed to provide the Welcome package for everyone. A bag full of goodies with a schedule inside. These will be handed out when you arrive.

That's all for now, I will be adding or changing this thread if necessary as we get closer to the date.

We now have a website set up with only the Home page working. I will be adding more pages as I build it. www.texasbusroundup.com This is my first one building it from scratch so be kind.  Wink

Happy Trails,

Paul

OK Bus Nuts, here's more information!

I just spoke with the manager at the KOA, our cost is $25 per night. Which is much better than what I saw online. Pay upon arrival.

Rally Cost: $50 per coach

This will include two meals for two people.

Send Registration Attendance information and fees to:

Paul Lawry

1071 N Judge Ely Blvd

PMB 6462

Abilene, TX 79601

If mailing after the August 31st deadline, please add $15.

We will have T shirts, just don't the cost yet as the vendor has not let me know. Thinking between $10-15 each.

I received a phone call from John Rigby today, they are not able to attend TBR this year. Other commitments came up that make it impossible for him and his wife Tami to attend. It was good of them to offer to do the work, but as always there is a plan B.

They have been there for two years, and will be missed!

With that in mind, there is a change in plans.

We are changing the two meals to potluck on Friday and Saturday evening. Salads, meats, side dishes, dessert etc.

We still will have an arrival BBQ on Thursday evening around 6pm. The cost for that will be $10 per coach. BYOB

Other than that, Happy Trails!  Smiley

Hi All,

Choctaw KOA is very nice. We have stayed there many times. Paved roadways, grass at your site with a BBQ Grill at each site.  Trash pick up daily, 5' salt water pool.  Shower facilities available for your use, before pool, after pool, etc.  We have stayed there several times and always have some of Paige's friends over.  They have a blast.  Speed limit is 10-15 so you are safe while walking, etc.  Cold weather or hot weather, they have an inside hall for eating and meeting.  The casino shuttle comes through every hour to drop off and pick up 24-7.

Paul, I saw your post, we won't be their for meals, some of us have to work.  Cry  BUT, we have already reserved our spot so we will see everyone there.

Regarding fees, please share again if I am not correct.  It appears that it is $10.00 for hamburger/hot dog night?  Paige is back in school so we won't be there for that meal either.

Just let us know the scoop.
Thanks,

Hi Brenda,

Yes, the $10 per coach is for the arrival BBQ. I'm sorry you won't be there for the meals, we'll miss you. Hoping you can spend some time with us when you're not working. Tell Paige Hi from Becky and I.

It's good to hear feedback on our new location. The pictures look good but you never know. With Sonnie picking out the spot I knew it would be great.

See y'all in a few weeks!

I'm ready to hit the start button Now! Cool

If we make it, it will be last minute and not before Friday.  I'm hoping you'll have spaces left if we do feel we can peel away, but I'll contact you and let you know that week for sure.  We've come year after year, and I sure do hate to miss out, but man, every day it's something different around here and Larry's dad pretty much panics if ONE of us is out of town, much less if both Larry's sister AND us are both gone at the same time!

Tomorrow I get to haul him all the way across OKC so he can "comparison shop" and see if we can get a "discount rate" on their funerals. . . seriously, we're going to the "Wal-mart" of funeral parlors. . . or is it the "Overstock.com". . .   Ebay of funeral parlors?

This will be the 2nd day we've spent funeral shopping, and I KID YOU NOT.  The other day, this man, my father-in-law, actually peered out the window of the funeral parlor, eyed up our Jeep Grand Cherokee and Larry's sister's Durango and actually asked whether maybe one of us couldn't haul the casket in the back of one of our big vehicles!  The look of shock on Larry's sister's face was priceless and for the first time, both of us were speechless. . tongue-tied. . finally, I started babbling about those SUV's really are not as long inside as they look and how we bought a 64" tall cabinet the other day and had to set the end of up on the back seat because it wouldn't fit. . yada yada yada. . .and as I'm rambling along, Larry's sis is thinking, "Did he just say what I THOUGHT he said and why is Chris rattling on about a cabinet they bought and did he just say what I THINK he did???"" hahahahahha.  Ahhhh, isn't life fun!

Anyway, hopefully we'll get to join you guys, just wish I knew sooner to make it easier for you to plan!  Christy Hicks

Christy, We will have plenty of room, so if you can make it great! Otherwise, I can understand what life brings your way. It's never a dull moment at this stage of our lives, and yours is no different!

Say Hi to Larry!

I'll post an update on the 15th to let everyone know what's going on. Just a little over two weeks to go, and I'm stoked!

If any of you want to caravan, post your location and where you are heading from. There could be others that want to travel along. Case in point, a guy in Houston wants to know if there is someone in the area he can caravan with.

We hope to meet up with Richard Bishop somewhere along the route on Wednesday, then have dinner in Denison at his favorite place to eat and spend the night. Then we'll head on up to the KOA and arrive on Thursday morning.

Happy Trails Everyone! The time is almost here!

Yeah, well, as we were sitting ONCE AGAIN at the emergency room last night at 1:00a.m., we do love the old coot and as much as we miss being irresponsible and taking off on bus trips, I'm glad we are so close & can be there to help him!

Plus, I'm getting to learn all kinds of medical lingo and I even learned that SOB actually stands for "short of breath", not, um, well, let's just say they weren't actually calling him names,  Cheesy!  As I regurgitated his medical history & medication list for about the sixth health professional in a 12 hr period,  I realized that we really ARE helping him and it IS important that either WE or Larry's sister be close by, as he starts getting so confused that he's likely to say he has kidney stones when they are actually gallstones and he doesn't have a clue what medicine makes him SOB...stuff like that.

So, keep a light on for us & we may surprise you.....we sure would hate to miss seeing everyone that's for
sure!  If we DO make it down, I doubt it will be before Friday, if that helps any!  Christy Hicks

Christy, Not to worry, priorities are important! Family always comes first!

Richard, I'm going to call Sonnie today, maybe he has an idea on a good steakhouse in the area. I'll let you know if we can find one that has a place for us to park overnight after dinner.

Are you talking about a steakhouse around Choctaw KOA/Durant?  If so, there is a Sports City Cafe just on the south side of casino.  Their food is pretty good and generally have live entertainment on the outside patio.  (Don't eat the roast, last time I had it --tough, tough, tough)  I usually can't get past the chicken fried steak, so do not know if their steak is any good.  Also, there is an awesome Mexican Food place/Salita's in Durant proper.  Paul. don't you know that Sonnie's bus only knows the way to the Choctaw parking lot, very little periphial, the only exception is Salita's.

I haven't seen anything from Bob and Sandy, are they coming?

Christy, you and your family are in our thoughts.  Hope things are great for you to be able to come.

We are planning on going Wed. so Paige can spend the night on the bus, see all of you soon.

BTW, not cold here today but long sleeve weather, probably be 105 this upcoming weekend Lips Sealed, bring a jacket just in case.

Thanks Brenda!  We appreciate it.

So far, things are looking up. . .  he was released to a skilled nursing center for rehab, and I got the doctor to not only write it down in the release orders, but also tell it to his face that he would NOT be allowed to drive for six weeks.  He elected to forego the skilled nursing center that was approved by his insurance company, and chose to go to the one where his wife, Larry's mom, is (which he will have to self-pay). . ..  Is that not just sweet?

We're hoping that he will continue to improve and that he will agree to stay in the home with her, rather than trying to move back home later and then drive back and forth again.  If he elects to stay, we still might finagle getting down to TBR, if not, well, we'll be standing watch and shuttling him back and forth.  Keep your fingers crossed, because I fear if he goes home, he'll not live another two months, so our best chance of keeping him alive is if he gives in and stays there.  I'll keep you guys updated, thanks again, Christy Hicks

Brenda, I guess I should have called you huh! Grin I called Sonnie to get some ideas in the area and he mentioned Texas Roadhouse. Not exactly local, but it's close to WM anyway.

We are meeting Richard and Missy Bishop just north of Fort Worth, then will head to Sherman. Overnight at WM, get BBQ grub on Thursday morning then head to Durant. See y'all Thursday morning around 9-10 am.

Bob and Sandi will be there, along with a bunch of newcomers!

Christy, If you are able to make it great! Otherwise we'll see you in Carthage! We will pray that Larry's Dad gets the best care possible and where ever he stays it will be best for him.
