I figured we've had so many breakdowns and other tramatic events on the board that maybe it was time to post something of a cheerful nature and then mike or frank can move it to the appropriate OT section after a day or so but I'm just a proud papa and can't hand out cigars or anything like that, maybe a shot of geritol but no smokes lol.  As you all know, I've got 2 kids I'm putting thru medical school on my meager income and fighting many battles with my own medical problems as well as libby's, Jamie got a letter from the "Office of the Provost" inviting her to the awards banquet and she could bring some family a couple of weeks ago, so I got all dressed up in my best bowling shirt and clean bluejeans and libby painted her face and we grabbed libby's step dad and off to the awards we went last night, Jamie is attending a Lutheran university up here called Finlandia University, otherwise known as FU lol, she is in the radiology program and doing pretty well, the university president called her to the stage and there she stood with the president and the Provost and they told her that they had for the first time come up with a new award designed for a student that is excelling in her studies, a pleasure to have around the campus and one that is excelling inspite of almost insurmountable odds against it, mainly 2 disabled parents who were also grads of the university, the whole staff and administration had unanimousely chosen jamie to recieve the award, her next year is fully funded and if she maintains her 3.8 GPA, the next year will be also funded etc, I'm so proud of her, she is working so hard to do well, when the guy handed her the award, the whole place stood and gave her a bunch of clap, I just had to share the good news, I'm so proud of her.

Cody,

Only knowing you from this board, I could have guessed that you two would raise kids like that.  Congratulations.

Congratulations!  You have every right to be proud of her.  And she should be very proud of her achievement too.  Like Len said, it is no accident that she turned out so well.  It had an early start I'm sure.  Of course some kids with excellent parents still go bad, so that is also a testimony to her good character as well.

That would be great jack, we've got lots of stuff going on now and then up here lol, even a meetup at the bridge and visit to the island would be fun, but the best would be to show you around the home turf.  We could even take a run up to Finlandia University and get one of their 'Go FU' t-shirts lol, bryce has one and he seems to like it tho I don't think his mom appreciated the humor at first lol.

We will definately keep it on our possibility list. A lot will depend on fuel prices later this summer.  Jack

Cody, that is one great post.  we're so happy to hear you could both make it to the award, that you were able to get there, that they chose Jamie to receive a special award, that you have a daughter that excels so much with so little to back her up right now, and that all of you have smiles from ear to ear!

thanks for sharing the wonderful news.  you have put a perspective on the world for the rest of us to compare to and quit complainin' about our own situations.  It does show that the light at the end of the tunnel is not always a train, but sometimes our Angel with good news.

This week has been so rewarding in so many ways for us, on monday we got the news that libby had been approved for medicaid and they are willing to pick up some of her past kidney related bills, then I found a tray large enough and strong enough to hold my power chair on the back of the truck, then we found a possible vehicle for libbys step dad that will help him out tremendously, then the awards ceremony for jamie, how could a person hope for a better week than that, I can't quite find the words to describe how I feel, happy doesn't cover it, proud is a part of it, it's one of the few times that those of you that know me can find me speachless, I was so pleased about everthing that I wanted my extended family to share in the good news.

Cody, that is such great news to hear. You and Libby should be proud of your little girl. Also you should take prepaid orders for those FU T-shirts I know I plan on ordering some from you and will send you the money + extra for each one so you can make some extra $$$ for your trouble. Well all I can say is GO FU My new favorite adopted school.

We are not only happy that your daughter was recognized for her accomplishments. We are also proud to know some one (even tho it's only via the board) who has expended the time and effort to actually raise their children. Many can't be bothered.
With your permission I would like to use you as an example to those who claim it's impossible to raise today's children.
Please excuse my rant. I will not inflict myself upon you any further...Cable

Cody,
Great to hear of Jamie's accomplishment!
Also great to hear of ya'll doing well too!

And yes I do have an FU shirt I proudly wear when I can find where mom hides it when she does my laundry! (but now that we have separate household I'll not have that problem no mo! Of course I have to do my own cooking, cleaning, and laundry now! But the good part is I have my privacy and sanity back! Wink)

Now to those of you who don't really know mom, don't get yer panties in a wad! I really love my mom & dad and appreciate all they do for me. But for many yrs I lived on my own and did all those things, then I moved back close to mom & dad  and they moved back in with me! (I love them too much to complain about being smothered, so it's a welcome joy of relief to be under different roofs again but close enough we can see each other anytime with a 15 minute drive!)

Now where did that blue shirt with the huge white FU go?  Wink

BK, right now things seem to be happening in about 2 week intervals, today I've got to take libby to Marquette to her kidney doctor for some more gut wrenching work lol, then all is good until the end of the month when jamie changes school for the summer, she can grab a couple of classes thru another college for the summer and jump start her next year by having them out of the way, then on May 12th I have to be at my parkinsons doctor in saginaw he is going to throw me in the horsepistal and look at a lump in my head that has been hanging around for a while, libby says I should have my head examined now and then, I told her if I had half a brain I would lol. Then we have to be back up here for spring planting, they are going to bury her mom on may 21st, beyond that we have no clue yet but this year is shaping up to be a much better year than we've had for a while, now if we can arrange a run for a while with the bus it will be perfect, meanwhile jamie is busy making her jewelry, doing her transcription work and now she is the sunday school coordinator for the church in skanee, all this on top of her studies, she is a busy kid, I get tired just watching her go thru her day.

With a work ethic like that, I am sure Jamie will find much success in her life.   I would say another congratulations is in order for that character trait.

Of course it stands to reason she would have a lot of character given that her dad is a real character.   Wink Grin Grin Grin   But in all seriousness, it is clear that she got her work ethic and her love of making sawdust from you.  Bravo!  Now if you can just get her addicted to bus conversion you'll have achieved the pefect trifectta.   Cheesy

Mike, I already have the perfect trifecta, congestive heart failure, parkinsons and onset MS, as far as getting jamie involved in buses lol, she has been right beside me the whole way in the iggle conversion and I've given her one of the Revcons to play with, she has already got the interior all mapped out as to how she figures it should be done.
