Posted this in off topic yesterday & moved it.

I just drove round trip from Chi to Indy and back.

In my 1/2 ton 2wd pu, to p/u an enclosed trlr a friend is loaning me to use on an upcoming vacation.

I was previously a driver and over the years have made that round thousands of times hauling hazmat from Inland Steel down there. I have driven in some very very bad conditions over the years The crosswind there creates whiteouts and at 20mph people just drive off the road from lack of vision. You will normally see this at least a few times over the course of the winter and it is scary.

This was one of those trips. I have been it it before but not any worse than it was tonight. On top of it my wife was with me and she was petrified.

It was a night that if you decide to pull off and stop you better be prepaired to stay till morn cause it is going to get worse. The alternative is to push on slowly and try to drive thru and hope some nipplehead going too fast doesn't shut things down with a wreck.

At one point the crosswind was pushing us sideways at 35mph, once so hard I just barly gathered it back up. At 25 there was a few overpasses we did not think we were going to get over for lack of momentum and traction. The last hour headed north was done at 25mph ( I-65) and at times the vision came and went even at that speed.

Debbie trembled so bad you would have thought she had Parkinson's. It's good to be home.

The trailer  is going to look good behind the bus it has the same stainless extruded sides as our XL, matching windows roof air bunch of cabinates. We are taking 5 with us on this trip the extra room will be great.

Just thought I'd unwind after that ride it was a  tough one. You all be careful out there.

Dreamscape asked for photos of the trlr we will get them up soon, it is too cool can't believe I have such great friends!

It was 82 in Yuma yesterday, supposed to be the same again today. Grin  You folks up north might be getting the weather that they had in the Northwest in a couple of days. Sad  Stay warm, dry, and safe.

The ironic part is, for the 6am temperatures today it was in the mid 30's from Houston across the gulf coast region and on across north Florida but it was mid 50's in Maine.  Something kind of topsy turvey about that.

Here in the Chattanooga, TN/N. Georgia area it was 19, light snow and wind chill of 6.  High today will be 24. Tonight's forecast keeps changing but right now it says 13 for a low and a windchill near zero.  I know that's nothing unusual for the northern midwest, but it is wicked cold for here.  Schools are closed, there are a number of road closures due to ice.  Fun, fun, fun.

For the next 3 nigthts, they are forcasting lows of 24, 20, 32!!!, then a warming trend.   I am keeping my fingers crossed that it gets all this out of it's system before the rally.  Jack

Those temps Jack listed are about 1 1/2 hours south of me and where I'm at it supposed to be in the teens!

Well, it's only 19 here (Kalamazoo, Michigan) with wind chill at about 0.  I'm far enough from the lake that the lake effect snow is not too bad.  North West Indiana looks like it might be a little rough though.

Right now, my water system is completely winterized.  I was hoping to be able to dewinterize when I hit Atlanta or so, but maybe not.  I have survived nights down to the mid to low 20s, but it also got to 60 or 70 degrees during the day.  My water system is not set up with any heat for winter use.

I will be bringing 2 gallons of RV antifreeze to rewinterizez before I get too far north.  Unfortunately, no toilet use for much of the driving part of the trip.

Belford just carry a couple of extra gal of RV antifreeze and leave them next to the toilet for flushing it. That always worked good for us.

The forecast only goes out 10 days, but unless it reverts back, it is looking to be on a good trend by the time you'll be heading down for the rally.  Highs in the 50's/lows in the 30's here and 70's/40's there at Arcadia.

We went through Quartzsite AZ. yesterday. It was 84 with a slight breeze. Its easy to understand why tens of thousands of RVers spend parts of the Winter there.

Me? Hey I ain't do'n! It's freak'n cold here 2! I spent my day over in Camden with a friend/part time driver that has 2 school buses on lease to the Benton County school system helping him thaw out one of his buses after he neglected to go plug it up last night and it was to frozen to start today. Then 10-15 mins after we got it fired up the air system froze up! Fun fun fun with out much feeling in the cold wind and sun!

PS Cody's been awful quite lately....it could be him sending this stuff to us, since he wasn't able to come south again this winter! Wink
