I haven't found anything yet better for grease and oil than old standby, Gunk. Spray it on, let it soak and wash off. Thick stuff needs to be scraped.

Pressure washer works better but keep it away from the alternator and wiring panels. Common sense is right!

I do have a pressure washer, but will it do much good without either hot water or a good degreaser actually mixed in with the water?  I have never been able to get the chemical intake on my pressure washer to work anyhow.

I got the Oil Eater to work with lots of scrubbing and lots of paper towels.  I was hoping for something that was a lot less work.  Oil Eater seems to be better when there is a very thin layer of oil or grease that isn't baked on.

  I either did the job myself, or assited, in cleaning over 500 light aircraft. Simple green is banned by the FAA AFAIK (though I hear its been re-formulated) as it is/was corrosive. We used solvert (mineral spirits) in a spray gun aerosol wand with compressed air. The solvent cleans, the air blows it off, the stuff dries without any residue, doesnt harm wiring, rubber, seals, paint, or anything that I know of, and is one of only a few things approved by the FAA. Being the Bus is aluminum/steel, I think its a good idea to stay away from anything even remotely corrosive.

for cleaning the engine, i always use the oil eater in full concentration, not diluted. the really tough areas may require 3 or 4 applications, but it always worked real good for me. no scrubbing required.

I just finished cleaning my engine with Gunk and cold water in a pressure washer, looks great.

It wasn't caked type grease, mostly a light coat of grease coated with dust from our county dirt road.
