So this is a great recommendation for AAA but what are your thoughts on Good Sam emergency service? $80 per year...covers unlimited miles for an emergency tow....

when I did research it stated closest place for repair.. that did not mean a BUS repair shop.. I was told it meant a REPAIR SHOP.  I explained what I had and decided I would go with AAA instead.. which so far has been good to me..

Hopefully Good Sam's towing policy says they will take you to a "qualified" repair shop.  The problem is that they determine who is qualified.  Bubba's truck repair may not have a clue how to fix an old bus.

Coach-Net states the following about towing coverage: "Towing your disabled vehicle to the nearest qualified repair facility as determined by NMC."  (NMC is the new owner of Coach-Net.)  Coach-Net's policy is one tow or mobile mechanic dispatch per disablement.  I wonder if Coach-Net would pay for another tow if the shop they tow you to can't actually make the necessary repair?

I have read reports where the roadside assistance provider will sometimes tow to the owner's choice of shop if the distance isn't too much further.  In other cases tow operators have sometimes been reported to tow to another shop at little or no extra charge.

Not near as much per year as on tow or even most service calls!

AAA is a bunch of regional clubs.  My local club charges $124.95 a year for RV roadside assistance which is one of the more expensive plans out there.  The local AAA club has a 100 mile limit on RV tows, but it appears they may tow you anywhere within 100 miles not just to the nearest service facility.  I don't know what happens if you are more than 100 miles from a service facility.

I've read in the past about AAA members having trouble getting service outside of their local AAA region.  I don't know if that is still an issue or not.

AAA seems like a good deal if they really will tow you anywhere within 100 miles.  Of course, in an isolated area help can be more than 100 miles.  Technically with Coach-Net if I break down 20 miles from home they wouldn't have to tow me home.  There are many "qualified" service facilities within 20 miles of my home.  They are only required to tow me to the nearest facility which might be only a few miles.

I have not had to use AAA for a BUS tow..

but I did blow my tranny last year in my dodge diesel pickup and was 98 miles from my house. when guy showed up he asked where I wanted truck towed.. I told him my house.. he ran my address in his GPS and said ok cool you are within 100 miles..

said $3 per mile if i was outside 100 miles..

Good Sam states they will tow you to the nearest qualified facility without any mileage limit. I know that a "qualified" repair facility is subject to argument, but truth is, I would hate to be limited to 100 miles. I just want the coach towed to a place that can fix it at the end of the day. $79 per year...and it covers all of the vehicles you own...your toad, your mini-van, your motorcycle. Kinda nice to me. On another note, Good Sam was just acquired by Camping World...
