98 prevost this inverter is powered by 2 6d batteries in parallel??? First question should they be in series??? I am told not to use crank batteries?  So i will change to 2 6v golf cart batteries @ 220 amp hours... should i use 12v or 4 batteries @ 24v... also i use shore power most of the time and the 20 genset fhe other half.... the gen charges the the inverter batteries.... this was the sourse of the rotten egg smell? |

If, as you say, your inverter is 24v the batteries should be in series. If you want to go to 6v batteries, you will need 4 in series to give you 24v. Series adds the voltage together.

Look and see if all the positives are wired together or (B) negatives are hooked to the positive post. That should help explain things.. It's most likely hooked up in series which is B

I am sure the neg to neg and pos to pos... 6d battery with 1400cca... wondering if it over charge because it is charging 24v |

You could post a picture, but as mentioned in the above posts, your voltage has to match, and it sounds like you got 12v of batt and 24v device.

If you have 24 volts charging a 12 volt battery then it will boil your batteries dry which could explain your rotten egg smell. If you do it long enough it will eventually kill your 24 volt charger too although it likely has some overcharge protection built into it. |

Although 6d's do exist, I have never seen one. He could find out if they are 4d ,6d, or 8d from the dimensions.

The batteries say 6d 1400cca on them.... MY question is they are in 12v not 24v and the inverter say its 24v... is this ok? |

Your batteries should match your inverter output.
They should be hooked in series if you have a 24V inverter.

Busnut83, if you are still in Dallas TX, how about see if a busnut near you would come over with his multi-meter and give you a hand to sort this thing out?
None of us want to see a fire, or the smoke let out of a good inverter.
