My experience on charging hundreds of large banks of batteries over the past 30 plus years is that Float Charge is exactly that. That is the voltage applied to the battery bank to maintain the bank at the charge level that it has been charged to. Not to finish the charge cycle.

My experience is also that as long as the genset has sufficient capacity to carry the connected load of the battery charger that the genset kw rating will not affect the battery charge capacity.

 Harmonic distortion may cause heating in some motors but as long as the RMS output voltage is in the proper +5-10% range, then the battery charger will automatically increase or decrease the DC output of the charger to maintain the proper charge rate.

Very few batteries will ever be in the discharged state that they can assume the full charge rate of the charger. Even if a charger is rated for 180 amps it is my experience is that even on commercial power this high rate of charge will be limited to a few seconds before the charger automatically cuts the charge rate down.
