Dave -  We have a firm mattress that came with our bus.  Its comfy.  Queen sized.  Our kids all have 4" thick 8lb memory foam mattresses and those are the bees knees.  I love lying in their bunks.  They have no idea how good they have it.  It cost us about 100$ per mattress.  Would have been about 250-300 for a queen size mattress.  My wife did have to do a bit of wheeling and dealing to find a shop that would sell them at that price.  Avg price was twice that.

I second Sean's motion on the memory foam dealies. We put one up in our guest bunk and everyone loves it.

I like the memory foam, but every approx 2 hours I have to get up and turn over from getting too hot. I'd swear I feel like bacon burning. The air number mattresses are nice and light if you have storage under the bed. Just put the memory foam on top of it. It may also help insulate you from the heat soak from the engine.

hi Tikvah, I've purcnased a couple of mattress toppers, on the Italian Greyhound I have the original 4" open cell foam, 2" of closed cell foam, and a mattress topper of pieces of foam, you can get them with down. Very comfortable, however summertime will get my wife hot, on & off, wintertime she's great with it, its like making your own custom bed, lvmci...

I'm really very anti-heat.  I need a breathable material.  One concern about an air mattress is the plastic that's used.  I realize I need to go to a store and get educated.  But I certainly appreciate the opinions here.

My guess is that all foam mattresses are very hot.

I just want comfortable, breathable, and very lightweight.... nothing special  Smiley

Yeah, I'm the same way.  In NC, it is hot and humid a lot of the year.

When I bought the first CostCo foam mattress, I was impressed with the "waffle weave" cover, maybe that's why it doesn't feel hot at all (although a light electric blanket and a 120V "cube heater" will keep me warm on freezing nights).  My experience of the memory foam is that it's the best mattress I've ever had, in all ways.  That's why I bought too more, one for the other house and one for the bus.   Never tried a "Select" air-cushion though.  I'm touchy about mattress comfort.

I'm glad you got that right.  I've got enough money to pay for a mattress ...

We have 2" memory foam over 4" firm foam on a plywood base.
It was hotter than the hammers of Haydes.

We put a thick quilted mattress pad over it & now all is good. Sleep like a rock.  Grin
Wouldn't have anything else.
