Willie Nelson's band bus (not Willie's bus) was in an accident overnight on icy I-30. 3 members of the family were hospitalized. Additional information will be released as we get it.

HOPKINS COUNTY - DPS troopers are investigating the cause of Willie Nelson's band bus crash in Hopkins County.

DPS Trooper Sylvia Jennings says around 3:30 Saturday morning, a bus carrying members of Willie Nelson's band crashed along I-30 in Hopkins County, 80 miles east of Dallas.(near Sulfer Springs ??)

The bus was travelling with 6 people on board when it hit a bridge pillar. Trooper Jennings says one person sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

Willie Nelson was not on board the bus.

DPS is investigating the cause of the accident.

3:30 AM, how about drowsy driving in addition to ice. Doesn't matter what the wheels are on when you drift off to la - la land it won't be long before they are on something other than what they were on or you will come to a sudden stop when the vehicle hits a fixed roadside object.

Willie was not on the bus so there would be a reduced level of smoke to get in the driver's eyes!

Entertainer Coach Driver Since 1986

Most Entertainer Coach Drivers are professional and have been at it for quite a while and have driven many, many miles.I for one have driven close to a hundred thousand miles a year for many years and have spent 300 days a year on the road traveling in all types of weather conditions and I like many others in the industry get my sleep in the day time at the hotel and dont drive drowsy,if I feel like I am getting drowsy or losing control of my senses I will stop and get out and stretch. It is quite a big responsibility carrying any live person on a coach, not to mention the added stress of someone famous like Willie Nelson. The lease company Willie gets his coaches from has been around over 40 years and I am sure they have all there ducks in a row as far as being legal and compliant and I am sure it was a freak accident that the driver had no control over. There is  not a lot anybody can do in the night time or daytime for that matter when a vehicle that large starts sliding on ICE other than just go with it and pray for the best. I am thankful to god no one got hurt any worse than they did after seeing pictures of the coach.I think it is unfair to assume the driver went to sleep when we were not there to witness what happened,I am sure the driver feels bad enough already without any unwarranted blame being cast on him.I have always been more worried about the 4 wheelers and sometimes big trucks that are sharing the road with me than I am about my driving skills,The insurance company and the owners of the lease company will not let just anybody drive a lease coach carrying entertainers. This is just my opinion having been there for over 28 years!!
