Face lift for the back of my 4104

I posted this on BNO the other day and thought some of you here might like to see it also.

The back of my bus has always bothered me. it had been "butchered" to install lighting that was not in keeping with the look of these old buses. I know that when it was done they had a reason to do it.

Well, I finally did something about it. Being on a budget I fabricated "patch panels" to cover up the rectangle hole that was cut to fit the lights rather then buy new complete panels at nearly $700.

I then cut new holes in the patch panels to fit new LED lights. And also installed back-up lights in the original lower panel holes.

I also cleaned up/replaced the wiring on the inside. Because my bus is still positive ground I had to install relays to activate the lights.

That looks great Z.  I really like the classical look also.  Nothing beats those LEDs either. 

You could fabricate patch panels for me anytime.

Hey, that looks great.  It really restores the classic appearance. Looks like you lost all the reflectors, though.  Will you be able to use some reflective tape or something without junking it up?

I will only be putting the lower right/left reflectors back on. They were the stock reflector housings with latter reflectors installed. I may upgrade them to some kind of LED marker light if I can find one I like.

Looks great!  Always hate it when practically everyone seems to think they need to put a fiberglass cap on their buses.  I personally like the look of the original buses, whether it be a GMC, MCI, Eagle or any other.  The fiberglass caps always reminds me of someone trying to cover up something.  Good Luck, TomC

What really ticks me off is people who:

Paint there buses other than the original color scheme. 

Change there power plant out with other than the original factory specs. 

Put stuff in the bays other than luggage or freight. 

Build an interior other than the original seats. 

But the worst are those who tell others what they hate on someone else's bus.

Couldn't have said it better Cliff! Sorry TomC, this time I have to disagree.

I like the caps on our Eagle because they came with the bus and were installed when I got it! Saved me money and time!

Sure the original look was great, and on some coaches it makes them look better. On zimtok's coach the original looks is definitely better.

Ya know I never really understood the idea of caps to
update the looks of a bus. If I had a 57 CHEVY I wouldnt
try to put Chevelle fwenders on it to try to uup date its
looks.

Sure, Pull out a classic like a "57" Chevy for your example..... make it hard to rebut that

The reasons are many...

Some have done a roof raise and need the caps for the new roof line.

Many have re-skinned and want the smooth sides.

Others have actually saved the bus by capping instead of scrapping due to rust in the front.

And many just like the look, you know, there bus, they want it there way.

Hmmm, did that 4104 come with a turbo, or did you UPDATE the power plant.....

Don't tell me.....
