The Bottom-Line...make sure it equips with infrared beam & 12 to 1 or higher ratio. Infrared allow you pin point reading in tight or crowded area. Other word, infrared is non-contact model.

Most all basic spot check are under 900°F.
Higher end model is good for higher temp and more feature that you would not miss for average user.
